SMEAR & FEAR - See how Clay Higgins follows the REPUBLICAN RACIST PLAYBOOK

Clay Higgins’ Extremely Racist Tweet Is Only the Tip of the Iceberg

“Higgins (R‑La.) posted a mocking, racist tweet about “wild” Haitians practicing “vudu” and flooding into the US from the “nastiest country in the western hemisphere.” Bayou Brief investigated Higgins in 1992 one year after the former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard and neo-Nazi David Duke was nearly elected governor of Louisiana… Higgins admitted that he’d recently voted for David Duke for governor of Louisiana (a man who once decorated his college dorm room with a Nazi flag and picture of Adolf Hitler). — Mother Jones

Higgins is a former law enforcement officer who faced sanction for his treatment of an unarmed Black man he was detaining… Higgin’s viral videos called out criminals drifted into his referring to Black suspects as “animals.” — Washington Post

Clay Higgins

In 2007, Higgins was a patrol officer for the Opelousas City police department. He resigned instead of receiving major disciplinary action for assaulting an unarmed Black man in custody. Police Chief Perry Gallow wrote a letter to the city council recommending discipline. The officer investigated alongside Higgins, accepted his punishment, and remained an Opelousas deputy for years. He later went to work for Higgins on his Congressional staff. — Level

Johnson and Scalise excuse Higgins’ racism

“Part of the reason Johnson and Scalise circled the wagons is that they, like Higgins, are Louisianans. Part of it, too, is that their majority is extremely narrow, and aggravating any individual legislator is something they would rather avoid. But part of it, without a doubt, is that holding Higgins to account means holding the party to account and holding its leader, Donald Trump, to account. How do you say that Higgins’s language was unacceptable when Trump and Vance are making similar claims?

This is precisely why it’s important to intercept false, inflammatory and racist rhetoric early on. The more you allow it to seep into the conversation, the more you simply accept it and the further it ends up traveling.” — Washington Post

Republicans deny minorities their voting power

Southern strategy

GOP Strategy in the 1960s to increase support from white voters in the South by subtly endorsing racial segregation, racial discrimination, and the disenfranchisement of Black voters. The strategy has also involved directly promoting conservative views on immigration, taxes, social welfare programs, law enforcement, and states’ rights. The Southern strategy proved successful. By the late 1970s, the regular political leadership of most Southern states had switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. — Brittanica

TakeAway: Hold MAGA Republicans accountable for their racism and immigrant-bashing. Elect Kamala Harris and Democrats.

Had enough of racist immigrant bashing? Don’t boo — Vote! Where Haitian voters matter the most.

Trump immigrant bashing

“The furor created by Mr. Trump during Tuesday night’s presidential debate has put Springfield in the cross-hairs of the nation’s political wars. For the past two days, bomb threats have proliferated, closing City Hall, schools and a motor vehicles office. F.B.I. agents have descended on the community to guard against danger not to animals but to humans.

The unexpected and unwanted attention generated by Mr. Trump’s false stories led to real-life confusion and anxiety for some residents. Schools have been evacuated, children sheltered at home and parents forced to make other plans during the workday. Gethro Jean, a Haitian pastor, said that he had been fielding questions from congregants who were concerned about attending church on Sunday.” — NY Times

As President Obama says “Don’t Boo. Vote!” Where do Haitian voters have the most influence? We used data from the Migration Policy Center to find out and create this StoryMap.
