September 7 Mobilization meeting recap
It was a great meeting, well-attended!
Many people were shocked by environmental activist and filmmaker Peter Sinclair’s presentation on Michigan’s Clean Energy & Climate Action package – a huge win for Michigan and for the planet, making Michigan a national leader with 100% clean energy standard, strong labor provisions, streamlined construction, and lowering utility costs. The law guarantees farmers’ control over their land, but Republicans are building a campaign arguing the opposite. Learn the facts and how to message them.
DemCast Michigan has a great set of informational videos to share on the subject; here’s a video of Peter’s presentation; check out the facts at https://www.wind101.info/ and https://www.sun101.org/

Barns for Harris/Walz!
Do you have a barn, or know of one we could paint on?

Back in 2008, there was an unofficial “Barns for Obama” thing going on. How about “Barns for Harris” this year? The paintable space needs to be on the lower part of the barn that’s visible from the road.
If you don’t have a barn, how about a good location for a really big sign?
A good location might be on a county road between, say, Dexter and Chelsea, or between Chelsea and Manchester, or on main roads into Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor. We’ll make 10 double-sided Harris signs, 4’x6′. With stands and hardware they cost $32 to produce — but we’ll give them away too.

Seeking Social Media Volunteers using TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X/Twitter!
We’re looking for volunteers to help us promote MIvoter.org, your one-stop shop for personalized voting, candidate, and Dem endorsement info statewide. Check out a working version at MIvoter.org using a Washtenaw County address. We need:
- Volunteers who can help maintain MIvoter.org accounts on FB, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. A volunteer will get on the accounts twice a day, maybe a total of an hour, to do the basics: post, like, follow, reply, and purge (trolls and the like). Experience posting on these platforms is important, experience using a social media management platform like HootSuite or Buffer a plus. Hope to have a group of several volunteers doing this.
- We’re also looking for volunteers to help us identify pro-democracy social media influencers (individuals and organizations) with lots of followers who can help us reach voters throughout Michigan.
Please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@washtenawdems.org

Daniel J. Mahoney for MI State Representative House District 46
Saturday, September 21, 3:30 to 5
RSVP for Location
Did you know that the MI 46yh House District covers the ONLY part of Washtenaw County NOT represented by a Democrat?
As it stands there is only a one-seat majority in the State House. In 2022 House District 46 was narrowly lost by 2,700 votes. It is critical that we are able to grow the majority in the State House.
Over the past two years we have seen what Democrats can do when we are in power. We codified abortion rights, invested in infrastructure, education and environmental protections. But the majority is far too close for comfort. Thats why we have to flip this seat.
WW Dems Highway Cleanup
September 22, 1:00pm – 3:30pm EDT
Corner of Scio Church Road and M52

The Western Washtenaw Democrats have sponsored a portion of M52 between Chelsea and Manchester for a number of years. A few times each year, we gather up a group of civic-minded volunteers to help us walk along the highway and clean up the myriad bits of trash that collect there.
Come help show our pride in our little corner of this beautiful peninsula we call home, and help us keep the environment in Western Washtenaw County clean. It’s a great way to spend a little time outdoors with friends and family, or to get to know fellow Democrats.
