Elon Musk Is A National Security Threat: Follow The Money

Elon Musk Is a National Security Risk

Musk’s now-deleted post questioning why no one has attempted to assassinate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris renews concerns over his work for the US government—and potential to inspire extremist violence. “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala 🤔,” Musk, X’s owner, wrote in a now deleted post, in response to another person asking, “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?” — Wired

Musk is his role as a major contractor for the US Department of Defense and NASA. According to ReutersSpaceX signed a $1.8 billion contract in 2021 with the National Reconnaissance Office, which oversees US spy satellites. The US Space Force also signed a $70 million contract late last year with SpaceX to build out military-grade low-earth-orbit satellite capabilities. Starlink, SpaceX’s commercial satellite internet wing, is providing connectivity to the US Navy. — Wired

Funding Musk’s purchase

The Middle Eastern money is a good sign for Musk, with 32% of the original $7.1 billion equity commitment coming from Alwaleed and the Qatari fund. Seventeen other signers of the May letter, including Oracle’s Larry Ellison, plus venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, were not required to make SEC filings because they did not hold Twitter shares prior to signing the document. Back in April, when he was still seeking to block Musk’s takeover, Alwaleed tweeted, “I don’t believe the proposed offer by @elonmusk ($54.20) comes close to the intrinsic value of @Twitter given its growth prospects.” — Forbes

Musk’s platform for spreading conspiracies

“Several of his recent posts about the election have drawn criticism. Last week, he amplified the bogus right-wing claims that immigrants were eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. And after the music superstar Taylor Swift said last week that she would vote for Ms. Harris, signing her endorsement “Childless Cat Lady” in a reference to comments by Mr. Trump’s running mate, Mr. Musk appeared to offer jokingly to impregnate Ms. Swift, writing: “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” — NY Times
