Ways we can help get out the vote

Sep 5

  • ELECT LEADERS WHO UNDERSTAND #ENOUGHISENOUGH
A new school year has just begun, and already we are mourning victims of another school shooting: students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn and teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie were murdered at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia yesterday. Now we’re hearing the usual platitudes from the usual suspects, but we know how they really feel. No one’s forgotten Donald Trump insisting “we have to get over it” after yet another school shooting in January. Let’s make sure we’re getting out the vote for leaders who are ready to take action beyond thoughts and prayers to protect our kids from guns. We can sign up to join Everytown for Gun Safety to phonebank and mobilize gun sense voters in key races throughout the next few weeks here. And we can use this database to find out and inform our networks which candidates on our ballot are committed to common sense gun safety laws.
  • LEARN ABOUT EFFECTIVE ACTIONS TO TAKE WITH SWING LEFT – TONIGHT!With less than nine weeks to go until Election Day, we know how important it is to take action, but how can we tell which ones will have the most impact? Swing Left is here to help us figure it out! Tonight from 8PM-9PM ET, we can join their Protect 2025 zoom call to learn more about how we can all work together to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and defeat Donald Trump and MAGA extremists up and down the ballot. On this call, we’ll learn where our involvement can do the most good. We can sign up for the call here.

  • FACT CHECK THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
This Tuesday, September 10th, the two presidential candidates will debate each other at 9 PM ET in Philadelphia. ABC will host the debate which will also be streamed elsewhere. To help viewers get the most accurate information, live fact-checking is essential. Let’s contact ABC News and tell them we want real-time, on-screen fact checking during the scheduled presidential debate to ensure we know immediately when a candidate is not being truthful. We can call their news department at 1-818-460-7477 or use their online contact form here.

  • TELL POTENTIAL THIRD PARTY VOTERS WHAT A PROGRESSIVE HARRIS ADMINISTRATION COULD LOOK LIKE
If we have people in our lives who are planning to not vote or to vote for a third party because Harris’s policies are not progressive enough, we can alert them to a series of memos put out by the ACLU that show the chasm-like differences between a Trump administration and a Harris administration, and lay out ways we can push Harris to adopt a more progressive stance once she is elected. Let’s also make sure to let these voters know that we will continue to work toward the world we want to see, and urge them to re-consider their vote as an opportunity for positive change that we would not see in a Trump administration. We can find the memoes here.
