Our Work Continues

There is no room in a democracy for political violence – ever. Despite recent horrible events, Republicans are holding their national convention this week where they will unveil the most unpopular agenda in modern American political history. And now Trump has named Senator JD Vance – who wants to end abortion, would have refused to certify the 2020 election, and vows to repeal the Affordable Care Act – as his running mate. We can’t loose focus on what the November election is about. And this is where you can make a difference.

The road to a Democratic majority runs through New York and we have a House seat here in Westchester (NY-17) that we need to flip from red to blue by electing Mondaire Jones. It will take an all hands on deck effort to reclaim this seat. We will have some Indivisible specific actions this fall, but in the meantime you can get started by:

  • Visiting the NY for Biden website HERE for actions, including Monday night phone banks.
  • Clicking HERE to take action with Mondaire for Congress.

Postcarding Party

Postcard brunch hosted by Senator Shelley Mayer for Mondaire Jones- Sun July 28@11am.

New York Equal Rights Coalition Update

The proposed language for the NY ERA ballot measure is available for public comment so the State Board of Elections can collect feedback. The NYER coalition has 2 flags on the language that they want changed. They have a specific request of Indivisibles!

1) Read this doc. It lists out everything to know about the public comment period.

2) Use the provided sample email to send emails to the State Board of Elections before Friday, July 26th @ comments@elections.ny.gov.

Commissioners of the New York State Board of Elections,

My name is [NAME] and I am a voter in [TOWN], New York.

I want to submit feedback on the ballot language for Proposal 1 because I find the language confusing.

The language “reproductive healthcare and autonomy” is unclear to me. It does not make clear whether the Proposal includes protections for abortion. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, I want to be certain that the amendment protects abortion.

The terms “sexual orientation and gender identity” are not clear. I thought the amendment protects members of the LGBT community. The phrase LGBT might help voters understand exactly what the NYERA would do to protect this community.

Thank you,
