IY in action

Canvassing for a House Majority

Indivisible Yolo volunteers were out in force in Lathrop on Sunday April 28 along with Indivisible Sacramento and other BAC groups. Lathrop is critical to getting our Democratic majority to the polls – the closest city in CA-13 to Yolo County and home to both strong Latinx and Asian minorities. In November, it will be Democratic turnout that flips the district blue. That’s why IY and our partners are already busy talking to voters across the district.

Upcoming canvassing trips led by IY include Saturdays May 11 in Modesto and June 8 in Merced. Sign up now and bring a friend.

Wrapping a week of kick-offs and fundraising

Taking back the House majority was the focus for the California Grassroots Alliance on Wednesday when Ben Wikler, who led the charge to flip Wisconsin Blue, reminded us that, just like 2018, we need to  be the cavalry we’ve been waiting for. Debuted at the kick-off is a new 3-minute Firebreak animatic now featured on their website, made possible, in part, by the anonymous donation of an Indivisible Yolo member. Our work in the Central Valley in CA-13 and CA-22 is critical to the goal to Sweep Six.
Meanwhile, many of our members both donated and attended the Central Valley Matters fundraiser for six in-district groups engaging voters. Featuring Dolores Huerta and Jane Fonda, who cited her connection with the Central Valley going all the way back to being on the set when her father played Tom Joad in the movie version of Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. As of Friday afternoon, CVM had raised $230K nearing the goal of $250K!

Still needed! Continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and to withhold arms transfers to Israel

We continue to call for a ceasefire and to withhold arms transfers to Israel contingent on Israel’s compliance with international law and US laws for security assistance. Please read the Indivisible.org latest statement below calling for all the parties to do everything in in their power to enact a durable ceasefire, and then call your Senators/Representative:

Sen. Padilla Sacramento phone: 916-448-2787

Sen. Butler Washington D.C. phone: 202-224-3841
Sen. Butler web contact form

Contact only your own Representative (Rep. Mike Thompson or Rep. Doris Matsui). Neither has yet signed on to this letter from more than 30 members of Congress calling to withhold arms transfers to Israel– we want our Representatives to take action!

Example call/email script (your own words are best!)

I am a constituent and I am [calling/writing] today to ask [Sen. Padilla/Sen. Butler/Rep. Thompson/Rep. Matsui] to publicly call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. It’s heartbreaking to witness the loss of civilian life in Gaza and the West Bank stemming from the Israeli military’s campaign. Any humanitarian solution to this crisis starts with stopping the bombs. Achieving safety and security for Israelis and Palestinians will not be achieved through a continued campaign of collective punishment.

President Biden should withhold arms transfers immediately, contingent on an independent and transparent investigation by the US into Israel’s compliance with international law and compliance with the US laws for security assistance. No more bombs should go towards indiscriminate attacks on Palestinian civilians or aid workers. The killing must stop now, not only after a Rafah invasion or some other horror. Enough.

I am counting on you to publicly call for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and to use your position to push for an end to hostilities and to deliver urgently needed humanitarian assistance. Please tell President Biden to withhold arms transfers contingent on Israel’s compliance with international law and US laws for security assistance. Thank you.
