Flip the PA State Senate

3 mins read

Republicans have held the 50-seat Pennsylvania State Senate for over 2 decades.

But the Republican majority is shrinking: from 34 seats in 2017 to 28 seats today.

To control Congressional redistricting by 2030, we need to take full control of the PA General Assembly.

Turn PA Blue organized for years to successfully flip the PA State House after decades of Republican control – and we’re not giving up until Democrats win both chambers.

Today, we’re highlighting 3 newly nominated Democrats in red-to-blue State Senate races that just won nomination in yesterday’s primary.

Pro-choice, pro-union Democrats Patty Kim, Jim Wertz, and Nicole Ruscitto are running in hotly contested red-to-blue races, and need your help to kick off the general election. Split a donation between PA State Senate candidates and Turn PA Blue now.

Meet the 3 red-to-blue candidates we’re highlighting today:

Patty Kim (SD-15, Dauphin) would be the first Korean-American in the PA State Senate. A former TV journalist, Patty has served since 2005 as a city councilwoman and State Representative. She’s running to flip a Biden +15 district.

Jim Wertz (SD-49, Erie) is a teacher, union broadcaster and production manager for local Erie news. A teacher, father, and chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party, Jim is running to take back our democracy and defend abortion rights in a Biden +2 district.

Nicole Ruscitto (SD-37 Allegheny) served as a public educator for 27 years, working as a school librarian and basketball coach. She’ll defend public education from right-wing book-banners and funding cuts.

General election begins

Polls have closed in the Pennsylvania primary, kicking off a general election with huge national implications:

  • 19 electoral votes that determine our democracy’s survival
  • A ONE-SEAT majority in the Pennsylvania State House
  • A chance to FLIP the Pennsylvania State Senate
  • TOSS-UP Senate and House races

a, the whole world is watching Pennsylvania. And at Turn PA Blue, we’re ready.

Our volunteers knocked doors and made calls to promote and protect voting by mail before today’s primary – and we’ll be going full force until November.

But our year-round work getting swing-state Democrats OUT to vote in every election depends entirely on supporters like you.

Thousands of volunteers.

Millions of texts, calls, doorknocks, and postcards.

Everything we do to WIN swing-state Pennsylvania is funded by democracy defenders like you.
