Too few Americans fully comprehend that our upcoming elections are an existential choice between democracy and authoritarianism.
Newsrooms are lulling the public into a false sense of security about Trump and his enablers’ plan for 2025. Corporate media places access, clicks, and profits above information that voters need about the threats to our democracy. Any description of a presidential or political candidate needs to include their platform, policies, past-governance, and behavior; especially if they are calling for an end to term limits of the Presidency, or calling for an end to the United States Constitution. Democracy’s survival requires newsrooms to reset, and focus on what’s at stake.
You can be part of the solution.
Signing our Open Letter ensures your frustrations over media’s failure to stand up for American democracy will be heard loud and clear. It is the duty of journalists, and any outlet that describes themselves as “news,” to support free and fair elections, condemn violence, and report facts. Democracy cannot survive without a free press accurately reporting on the threats to our nation.
Our Guidelines for Pro-Democracy Coverage:
1) Cover Elections Like They Matter More Than Sports Scores
2) Make Threats to Democracy Clear
3) Protect Americans From Disinformation
ACTION #1 Read and sign our Open Letter requesting pro-democracy coverage and reporting. ACTION #2 Write Letters to the Editor of your preferred newspaper asking for pro-democracy coverage, and provide them our guidelines.
ACTION #3 Reach out to journalists, thank them for their work, kindly ask that their reporting be pro-democracy, and provide them our guidelines.
ACTION #4 Share these guidelines with your family, friends, and civic organizations.
