MAGA justices push abortion pill restrictions

Trump appointed Justice Matthew Kacsmaryk suspended the FDA’s longtime approval of key abortion pill mifepristone — NBC News
“The same Supreme Court Justices who undid constitutional protection for abortion will hear arguments in more abortion restriction: tightening access across the country for a medication that’s used in nearly two-thirds of all abortions nationally.” — NPR
“They could decide that abortion pills like mifepristone would only be approved through seven weeks of pregnancy or that pills would have to be prescribed and picked up in person. Trump appointed Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk invalidated the FDA’s approval of mifepristone. Anti-abortion groups are claiming—using very dubious, now-retracted ‘studies’ ” — Excerpts from “Abortion, Every Day” by Jessica Valenti

MAGA Justices steal your freedoms
“Trump judge’s ruling could ban abortion pill across the US.” — Guardian
“Far-right groups have asked to reverse the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, which has been on the market for decades. A Texas judge could upend what remains of abortion access across the US if he agrees to a request by far-right groups to reverse federal approval of a key drug used in medication abortion, which accounts for more than half of pregnancy terminations nationwide. Reproductive rights advocates say the ruling could have a “devastating” impact on the already fragile abortion care landscape, severely eroded by the US supreme court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade.” — Guardian

Redacted financial disclosures
“The federal judge who issued a nationwide ruling blocking the approval of a common abortion medication redacted key information on his legally mandated financial disclosures, in what legal experts described as an unusual move that conceals the bulk of his personal fortune.
Kacsmaryk reported owning about $2.9 million in stock in the Florida-based supermarket company Publix. It’s not clear whether that’s the same holding as the redacted stock, although Publix’s share price had significantly increased by 2020 and 2021 and the company is no longer listed on his more recent disclosures. In his 2020 and 2021 annual disclosures, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk wrote that he held between $5 million and $25 million in “common stock” of a company – a significant majority of the judge’s personal wealth.” — CNN
