Is the press failing us? We discuss tomorrow night at Blue Thursday
Are mainstream media outlets meeting the moment? Have they learned anything since 2016? Mark Jacob is a veteran journalist, former editor at the Tribune and Sun-Times, now the proprietor of stopthepresses.news, a newsletter focusing on press performance in this crucial election year. (Hint: he’s not impressed.) Michael Spikes is a lecturer at Northwestern’s Medill School, director of its Teach for Chicago Journalism program, and co-founder of the Illinois Media Literacy Coalition. They’ll critique the coverage and tell us how to deal with it.
Blue Thursday, we hope you know, is a monthly political happy hour in which we mingle, imbibe, gossip, and hear the latest from pols, press, and pundits. It happens at the Hideout, the city’s most excellent saloon. Bar opens at 5:30, program starts at 6. It’s free and open to all, but please RSVP here. And bring several friends!
If you can’t be there in person, catch the livestream at facebook.com/IndivisibleChi or find the podcast at on.soundcloud.com/NukJf.
