Letter from the Chair

Dear Community,

The 2024 Democracy Fair was a huge success!

 26 candidates showed up with petitions, campaign volunteers, signs, and

powerful speeches.

 15 ally and partner organizations joined us to table at the event.

 9 postcards to voters got written, and 200 more distributed by Northeast Arizona

Native Democrats.

 38 people stopped by the Elections Office table to get information.

 Children made Biden-Harris friendship bracelets using kits provided by Arizona

Women for Biden-Harris, created donkey puppets, and painted signs.

 1 new voter got registered.

 85 people signed the Arizona for Abortion Access petition.

 7 dozen custom tee shirts were designed and printed in advance of

the Fair and are now available for sale on our ActBlue.

 1,000 waterproof stickers were designed and printed ahead of the Fair, with

enough to supply the Roosevelt-Kennedy Gala with swag.

 8 tee shirts were sold at the Fair.

 $2,000 + raised with the Raffle.

 Nearly 300 people attended the event!

Thank you to everyone who showed up to Democracy Fair 2024. Whether you were

there making popcorn or a campaign speech, circulating or signing petitions, setting up

or packing up, tabling, learning, campaigning, registering voters, selling raffle tickets,

wrangling candidates, or running tech, every effort we make now brings us closer to a

Blue ’24. We are the grassroots campaign to reelect Biden-Harris and Democrats all the

way down the ballot, and there is nothing we can’t do when we work together.

Special thank you to the custodial and managerial staff at Coconino High School for

being so helpful, all the volunteers who worked the Fair, Nancy Branham for organizing

the Raffle, Joshua Butler for designing tees and stickers, and Chairwoman Yolanda

Bejarano and the Arizona Democratic Party for the grant that paid for it all!

Blue Arizona 2024!

Congratulations again to prior Eleanor Roosevelt award winners! The Coconino County Democratic Party appreciates all you’ve done to defend Democracy. We look forward to celebrating the addition of the 2024 Eleanor Roosevelt award winner, to be announced at the Roosevelt-Kennedy Gala on April 20th.  Please submit nominations to the Executive Committee at Chair@coconinodemocrats.org. Previous winners are not eligible. Explain who the nominee is and how they have expressed their commitment to the duty of the Democratic Party as described above. Submissions should be no more than 350 words. The Eleanor Roosevelt Award recognizes a person whose contributions to the community echo the example set by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and whose life and work are an answer to her call to action.

“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home—so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in, the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning here, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerned citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”

Boost Our Candidates over the Line and onto the Ballot!

The roster of Democratic candidates for state, county, and legislative offices is filling in. And because of the new date for the summer Primary Election, these candidates are facing an imminent deadline of April 1 to file signatures to get on the ballot! Go to this page on our website to meet our candidates: https://coconinodemocrats.org/2024-candidates/To help them reach the requirements for signatures (and, for Clean Election candidates, the requirement for $5 campaign donations), find them on the eQual page on the Arizona Secretary of State website:https://apps.azsos.gov/equal/https://apps.azsos.gov/apps/election/eps/op/It takes only a minute to help our candidates secure their positions on the ballot – do it now!

We Need YOU to Serve as a Precinct Committee Person!

You’ve heard us describe the importance of our PC’s – the Precinct Committee persons who serve as our liaisons to the wider community. Though new terms don’t begin officially until fall, NOW is the time to step forward to keep our County Party moving.

Whether you are a current PC planning to stay connected, or you are interested in becoming a PC for the first time, you have two options for nominating yourself.

You can file a nominating petition with the signatures of 10 registered Democrats who live in your precinct (deadline to bring to our office is March 25);

OR

You can file an affidavit to be a write-in candidate without needing any other signatures (must be dated and brought to our office between April 2 and April 8).

Pick up the appropriate petitions at our Monthly Action Meeting, March 9. Or come by our office in the Historic Ice House, downtown Flagstaff (201 E. Birch, Suite 6).

Petitions and affidavits should be returned to the office prior to the deadlines, so we can track how we are doing on filling our available slots.

Practice Your Voting Skills in This Month’s

Presidential Preference Election!

Early voting in the PPE is going on now. If you’ve received a mail-in ballot, don’t forget to complete and return it (through the mail or at one of the drop-off boxes). You can vote in person up through March 15 at one of the early voting sites. Or you can vote at your precinct polling location or at one of the County’s vote centers, in person, on Election Day, March 19. Complete information on all of these options, and more – including sample ballots! – is available at the Elections Department website:

Serve as a Poll Observer on Election Day!

Our statewide Coordinated Campaign is still recruiting and training poll observers to watch voting and, if necessary, to assist voters at Coconino County polling places and vote centers during the Primary and General Elections this year. Use this link to sign up – you’ll be contacted about the very helpful on-line training.
