RAPID RESPONSE IS NEEDED TO SUPPORT GUN SAFETY IN HAWAII!
The Senate Committee on Public Safety and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs is holding a hearing this Wednesday at 3 pm on SB3196 and SB 2845, both important bills addressing firearm safety.
Please submit testimony supporting these bills by Tuesday, February 13 at 3pm.
SB 3196 Relating to Firearms (IN SUPPORT)
Bans assault rifles, assault shotguns, .50 caliber rifles, and assault weapon attachments, expands the definition of banned assault pistols, bans firearms with detachable magazines with over a ten round capacity.
Talking points:
Hawaii is the only state in the nation with an assault weapons ban that FAILS to ban assault rifles and large capacity magazines for those weapons.
SB 3196 will finally close gaping holes in Hawaii’s Assault Weapons Ban.
Assault weapons are modeled on military weapons, capable of inflicting the greatest harm on the greatest number of people in the least time. Hawaii does not need assault rifles and large capacity magazines.
The NRA and local gun clubs are vocal, but they are a small minority and do not reflect the great majority in our community on this issue.
Our nation already has more mass shootings than there are days in the year. Please help keep Hawaii safe from this senseless violence.
SB 2845 AMMUNITION (IN SUPPORT)
SB 2845 prohibits persons under the age of 21 from purchasing or possessing ammunition.
Talking point:
A person must be 21 years old to buy or carry a firearm but there is no current restriction on purchase or possession of ammunition. This bill corrects that deficiency and keeps ammunition out of the hands of minors.
PLEASE NOTE: TESTIMONY MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR EACH BILL SEPARATELY.
Thank you,
Barbara on behalf of Indivisible Hawaii Gun Safety Team
