Letter from the Chair
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Presidential Election Day 2024 is in 39 weeks. What will you do to make sure that it’s a day to celebrate? There’s a lot to do between now and then!
Please check out the newsletter for volunteer opportunities that match your interest and availability. Together, we can help win the White House for Biden/Harris and elect more Democrats all the way down the ballot. Actively engaging in this work is a guaranteed method for combatting anxiety about the state of our Democracy.
Be sure to attend our Democracy Fair on February 24th, from noon to 4:00 pm.
Invite everyone you know and help us fill the cafeteria and commons areas of Coconino High School with voters and future voters. We’ll need lots of help that day, please sign up to help if you can.
A big thank you to Nancy Branham and all the volunteers who make the Coconino
County Democratic Party Donation Drive in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. such a huge success. The last of the winter clothing and blanket donations are packed up and ready for delivery to Sovereign Lands. Thank you to District 4 Supervisor Judy Begay for making those arrangements.
Are you interested in working for Coconino County to help with Election Day?
Find out more at our Action Meeting or call the Elections Office at 928-679-7120 and ask for Denise Anderson.
Finally, go ahead and download the DNC REACH app on your personal device, and
look on Mobilize for the training on how to use it. This APP for relational canvassing will be a key component of the coordinated campaign, and you’ll be hearing lots more about it.
Get ahead of the game and be ready for the campaign to reelect Biden/Harris!
Together we will celebrate a Blue Arizona 2024,
Laura Carter
Chair

The Coconino Democratic Party and Indivisible NAZ are hosting a monthly in-person training. The next will be at 11am, February 17, 2024. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP here.
*Please note in advance, the AAA Coalition requires circulators to complete the petition training and provide your original training date information to check-out any petitions from the Flagstaff or NAU Hub.
Check out Arizona’s List, Healthcare Rising, our website calendar & our Mobilize page for news, updates, and training information.
- You can stop by on TUESDAYS and Fridays between 11:30 AM-1:30 PM to pick up petitions.

Eleanor Roosevelt Award
The annual Roosevelt-Kennedy Celebration is our biggest Party event of the year. This occasion is a time to gather with like-minded Democrats and allies to celebrate our achievements and raise funds for the year ahead.
The Eleanor Roosevelt Award is presented annually to honor a Coconino County Democrat who best exemplifies these words from the First Lady for whom the award is named:
“It is the duty of the Democratic Party to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”
Please send your submission for this award to info@coconinodemocrats.org with the
subject line “Eleanor Roosevelt Award”. Explain who the nominee is and how they have expressed their commitment to the duty of the Democratic Party as described above. Submissions should be no more than 350 words.
Past recipients of this Award are not eligible. If nominated, they may be considered for
other awards made at the 2024 Celebration.

Paid for by the Coconino County Democratic Party

Dear Democrats,
Due to ongoing concerns about the Covid-19 virus, we offer to our members who would like to become Elected Precinct Committee People (PC) in the Democratic Party the option to apply as a write-in candidate rather than collecting signatures. This will allow candidates to follow recommendations for social distancing as we all try to keep ourselves and our community members healthy. It is also more equitable for those of us who live in dispersed communities or lack convenient transportation.
The County Party and the State Democratic Party need your help more than ever in this pivotal Presidential Election year. We need representation from every precinct or neighborhood across the County as we strive to reelect/elect more Democrats in 2024 and the midterm election in 2026.
The term of the Elected PC is October 2024 – 2026. Elected PCs vote in County and State Party elections and may pursue leadership in the County, State, or National Party. A robust PC cohort helps strengthen the Party and gives Coconino County increased representation at the State Party level. Many people are already doing the work of a PC, which is register voters and to encourage Democrats to vote. The job is self-defining; choose two or more activities from a long list of choices: attend monthly meetings, register voters, phone bank, write postcards, volunteer for a Committee or an event, be a monthly donor, be a State Committee Member, circulate petitions, canvass, recruit more members, and more!
Please join the Coconino Democrats Precinct Committeeperson ranks by filling out the “write-in” candidate form for the Precinct Committee Person position.
Mail it to:
Coconino Democrats
PO Box 701
Flagstaff, AZ 86002.
The deadline for write-in applications is April 22, 2024. Please turn in the form by April 19.
It must be dated AFTER April 8th, 2024.
We will check your form to make sure it is complete and turn it in for you at the County Recorder’s office. Call our office if you have questions: 928-214-0393
Thank you for participating in leadership with the Coconino County Democratic Party!
***You may still use the nominating petition to get signatures for the position of Precinct Committeeperson instead of using the Write-in option. The Elections Office will inform us shortly about how many signatures you need, in years past it has been 10 or fewer.
The deadline to apply for Precinct Committeeperson via nominating petition is April 8, 2024.
DNC REACH APP
Check out the latest tool from the DNC for organizing and reaching out to your network of contacts. DNC REACH app
This App will be integral to our work going forward.
We will discuss campaign strategy and tools in upcoming Action Meetings and training sessions. Be sure to download Mobilize.us to find out where the action is!

The right-wing website The Federalist accuses her of letting a “left-wing” organization “meddle” with our elections. In reality, Recorder Hansen has sought advice from an evidence-based group, the U.S. Alliance for Elections Excellence, on a couple of very specific topics.
For example, she asked for ways of improving the clarity and usefulness of language around early voting and information in the Voters’ Guide that is sent to every registered voter. The Federalist does not actually identify any particular change in process or in voter education that would represent improper or biased interference in our elections.
As a member of the Coconino County Democrats, and as a voter, I am personally DELIGHTED that our Recorder has been looking to best practices from elsewhere in order to improve election processes.
Please thank Recorder Hansen – and our Elections Director, Eslir Musta – for all they do to assure we have safe, secure, accurate, and transparent elections.
