Friends,
While women have come a long way, we have a way to go before full representation is achieved.
Despite being 51 percent of the population, women only hold 28.2 percent of the seats in the US Congress. In Pennsylvania, women only make up 32 percent of the state legislature, and no woman has ever been elected as our Governor or as a US Senator for the state. But the tide is turning.
Pennsylvania cracked the glass ceiling when it elected its first woman and first person of color Speaker of the House, Joanna McClinton. We need to keep the PA House blue to keep Speaker McClinton in charge.
Turn PA Blue is organizing to make sure that we keep our first female Speaker and the Democratic majority in our state legislature. Will you chip in?
Pennsylvania has a long and rich history of struggle to secure women’s suffrage. The gains women have made are the result of decades of grassroots work to break down barriers and boost women’s political involvement.
There is so much at stake in the 2024 election. Bodily autonomy, equality, and so much of the ground we have struggled to gain could be lost. We refuse to go back!
Women are consistently out-voting and out-registering their male peers – a trend that we must continue in order to restore reproductive freedom, defend our democracy, and impact our daily lives through public policy.
At Turn PA Blue, we know that a more inclusive government creates public policy that is more reflective of who we are as a people.
Make sure you wear shoes, ladies. We are going to get glass everywhere!
Representation matters.
-Turn PA Blue
