- IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION CAN’T WAITSince the GOP can no longer use the issue of abortion to be the basis of their election strategy, they appear to have chosen immigration to take its place, apparently under the direction of the former president. Immigration reform is very much needed, and both sides of the aisle agree on that. Thus far, the GOP has either voted down or sabotaged any immigration bills so that the problem remains a problem into the election. They are putting politics in front of real and timely solutions. As attorney Jay Kuo said, “Republicans are ratcheting up the very crisis at the border that they claim they want solved.” There are human lives on the line that this legislation could help. Let’s contact our MoCs and tell them to get this immigration law passed.
- WRITING LETTERS TO THE EDITORWe know that writing letters to the editor of our local newspapers can be very effective. Not only can we have our say on a particular issue, but we can share our thoughts with readers at large and often get the attention of our MoCs. Indivisible shows us why this is important and how to do it. The National Popular Vote has created a list of newspapers in the US that we can use. Let’s start writing some letters to the editor on issues and concerns that are important to us.
- BLACK VOTERS MATTER TRAININGBlack Voters Matter is an organization dedicated to increasing the power and impact of Black communities through civic engagement. This is accomplished through youth activist training and grants, warrant clinics, police reform, get-out-the-vote text and postcard campaigns, and more. On Tuesday, February 6th, Black Voters Matter will be hosting an Intro to the Power Building Team virtual volunteer orientation where we can learn more about Black Voters Matter and how we can make an impact as volunteers. Let’s register for the event, and work to increase the power of Black communities across the country.
