  • CALL FOR IRS INVESTIGATION OF “PATRIOT FREEDOM PROJECT”501c3 nonprofit charitable organizations are legally prohibited from participating in partisan politics or from endorsing or opposing candidates. Yet the Patriot Freedom Project, a 501c3 charitable organization that considers January 6 insurrection defendants to be “political prisoners” and provides financial assistance to them and their families, arguably engages in exactly these prohibited activities by promoting the election of Donald Trump. Congressional Democrats are saying that the IRS should investigate whether the Patriot Freedom Project is violating federal tax law. Whether our MoCs are Democrats or Republicans, let’s share this NPR report with them tell them to file a Form 13909 Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (Referral) with the IRS against the Patriot Freedom Project. We might even consider filing such a report ourselves.
  • STUDENTS FOR BIDEN-HARRISThe 2024 Students for Biden-Harris program to mobilize students on campuses across the country to re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris has begun.  They are looking for college students to become a pivotal part of a nationwide network of students dedicated to supporting President Joe Biden’s vision and policies. Those who sign up will receive regular updates, exclusive insights, and the chance to organize impactful events for young voters across the country. Let’s share this with our college student friends and encourage them to sign up and help.   They are also seeking paid interns to work with them.

  • STOP UNNATURAL “NATURAL” PRISON DEATHSSome 75% of federal prison deaths since 2009 have been deemed “natural deaths,” for which authorities are not required to perform an autopsy. But an NPR investigation found that the vast majority of the inmates who have died in federal prison are under age 65, and at least some of these deaths are potentially attributable to medical neglect and poor prison conditions. Let’s tell our MoCs that we want laws passed that prevent federal prisons from using the “natural death” designation to avoid accountability and ensure that no one dies in prison from medical neglect, lack of health care, and poor conditions. We can also tell the Federal Bureau of Prisons to stop prison deaths caused by neglect and poor conditions and to investigate every death thoroughly: Colette S. Peters, Director, Federal Bureau of Prisons, 320 First St. NW, Washington, DC 20534, 202-307-3198 or use their contact form here, or their general email address:  info@bop.gov
  • ADVOCATE FOR A TEEN HEALTH HUBWashington state’s Department of Public Health has created a wonderful online Teen Health Hub where young people can get accurate, compassionate information on dating, relationships, and safety; healthcare rights and access; mental and behavioral health; sexual and reproductive health; and whole body health. Let’s explore the site, and let’s share the link (https://doh.wa.gov/teenhealthhub) with our  governors, state legislators, and local officials and ask them to create a Teen Health Hub for our states and communities. (h/t Your Local Epidemiologist)

  • JOIN MOTHERS FOR DEMOCRACYPerhaps we’ve seen their recent viral video Thoughts and Prayers.  Mothers for Democracy was started by Nancy Thompson, a Texas mother opposing the policies of MAGA Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott. As we enter the 2024 election season, let’s offer to help their work to elect Democrats in Texas and across the nation. We can sign up here.
