End the military-promotion blockade, cultivate a Democratic-majority electorate, order more free COVID tests, and more!

- DEMAND THE END OF THE MILITARY-PROMOTION BLOCKADE
For ten months, one person, Senator Tommy Tuberville, has held up military promotions because he doesn’t like a Defense Department policy covering travel expenses for service members seeking an abortion. Military leaders are warning us that Tuberville’s actions are leaving our military weaker and less prepared to defend us. To break this impasse, the Senate Rules Committee has just passed—without the support of a single Republican—Senate Resolution 444 which allows many of these promotions to be voted on in one bloc. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has vowed to bring the resolution to a floor vote, but it will need nine Republican votes to pass—votes that so far do not appear forthcoming. We can call our Senators, especially if we are represented by Republicans—and tell them to vote yes on Senate Resolution 444 to allow the long delayed over 350 military promotions to be voted on in one bloc. We can also use this tool to write and send letters to our senators here. - CULTIVATE A DEMOCRATIC-MAJORITY ELECTORATE IN SWING-STATE PENNSYLVANIAIt’s hard to believe, but the 2024 Presidential race is uncomfortably close, with several recent polls showing Trump ahead of Biden in 5 out of 6 swing states. Even after Trump has declared his intentions to run an autocratic state, replacing government employees with partisan followers, and calling his political opponents “vermin,” his authoritarian message has found a disturbing amount of support, making this next Presidential election especially important. If we want our democracy to continue, we need to get the vote out, especially in the crucial swing states like Pennsylvania. Every vote counts, and every new voter we can get makes our chances of victory even stronger. We still can make a difference and we can start now, working with Field Team 6 to make sure Democratic voters in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania are registered and ready to vote safely from home. - ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT IS TIED TO MASS SHOOTINGSFrom a reader: After the New York Times broke a story that an Army ammunition factory, that also sells to the retail market, was the source of cartridges involved in many of the mass shootings over the years including, including at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.; a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas; a high school in Parkland, Fla.; and an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Congress is seeking more information. Let’s make sure that our MoCs know that this does not sit well with us and recommend that the law be changed so our government isn’t paying to have military grade ammunition sold to private citizens..

- CALL OUT AMAZON FOR ABANDONING CLIMATE CHANGE GOALSAmazon’s carbons emissions have increased 40% since 2019, and the company has quietly abandoned its plan to reduce emissions by 2030. As a result the company has lost its designation as a climate-conscious company. Let’s try to keep this in mind as we do our holiday shopping this year and let’s let Amazon know that we will be patronizing companies that are actively engaging in more sustainable practices.
