“Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay. But we can honor their sacrifice, and we must. We must honor it in our own lives by holding their memories close to our hearts, and heeding the example they set.”
-Barack Obama, 2011
Today is Veterans Day; a day to honor those who risk their lives everyday to protect the world and make it a better place. Veterans Day serves as a reminder that our freedom is not guaranteed. Our freedom is protected by the men and women in our Armed Services, first and foremost. In America, the work of Veterans and active members of the Armed Forces promises our freedom and security.
Let us not forget that we, too, have a duty to maintain our freedom, peace, and democracy. We do this by voting for leaders who demonstrate a commitment to democracy, and by pressuring our government to ensure Veterans and their families receive eligible benefits and care.
This Veterans Day, please take a moment to remember all of those who protect our freedom and security each and every day. Today, the Oakland County Democratic Party joins our community to extend our sincere gratitude to the past and present Veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
In solidarity,
Nancy Quarles
Chair, OCDP
