How do Republican politicians benefit from denying the climate emergency? Follow the money.
Oil companies have known for decades that carbon pollution threatens the planet, but have sought to block action addressing the crisis. They have poured billions into political donations and misinformation campaigns to protect their profits and block clean air laws.
At this point, anyone who denies climate change is either willfully ignorant or complicit in protecting fossil fuel profits over the safety and security of our children and grandchildren.
We are struggling with increasingly widespread and frequent catastrophic extreme weather events, increases in pests and food insecurity, and growing climate refugee numbers. “Faux News” and other radical conservative media continue to spread their poisonous disinformation, while Republicans try to retain obscene corporate profits based on trying to stop the Democrats from passing environmental legislation. Ironic, since most experts agree that renewable energy is better for the economy and for business than fossil fuel energy sources.

How does the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act (“IRA”) keep money in our pockets and accelerate our clean energy future?
The IRA provides homeowners with discounts and rebates to make homes more energy efficient, including for rooftop solar and energy efficient home appliances.
The IRA funds electrical grid improvements to help deliver more electricity from clean energy sources and to increase reliability during extreme weather events, like hurricanes, floods, and snowstorms. Companies have started almost 200 new projects that will bring clean energy and new jobs to communities across the country, including solar and wind projects, and batteries/electric vehicle parts factories (gigafactories).
By generating our own renewable and reliable energy in the U.S., the energy market is stabilized and energy is more affordable. These investments empower us all to do what is best for our families and our communities.
