Republicans have not kept their commitment to Missouri families. They have a choice to make as we head into one of the most important elections in our history. The policies of the far-right Republican party who have been in the super-majority for more than 20-years haven’t provided any positive change to move our state forward.

Mail-in ballots, ranked-choice voting part of Missouri Democrat plan for presidential primary

Instead of reverting to a caucus-only system, the process used in most elections prior to 2000, the Missouri Democratic Party is seeking comment on a plan that will use mail-in ballots and four hours of in-person voting on a Saturday – March 23 – to gauge party sentiment.

Russ Carnahan, chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party, said in an interview Wednesday that the cash-strapped party has a projected budget, along with donors lined up to help finance the party-run primary, but he declined to reveal either.

Proud Boys’ Enrique Tarrio gets record 22 years in prison for Jan. 6 seditious conspiracy

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced Tuesday to 22 years in prison for orchestrating his far-right extremist group’s attack on the U.S. Capitol in a failed bid to stop the transfer of presidential power after Donald Trump lost the 2020 election.

Tarrio’s sentence is the longest so far among more than 1,100 Capitol riot cases, topping the 18-year sentences that Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and one-time Proud Boys leader Ethan Nordean each received after juries convicted them of seditious conspiracy and other charges.

GUEST COMMENTARY

Extremist politicians create culture of fear at university, Missouri hospitals

A Missouri law went into effect Aug. 28 that bans gender-affirming care for minors across the state. This anti-transgender legislation was driven to the governor’s desk by those willing to ignore the dozens of families with transgender children who have repeatedly come to the Missouri Capitol to testify against the harm these bills will do.

The Columbia community intimately knows the dangers posed by this legislation, thrust upon us by politicians happy to play politics with people’s lives. While hospitals around the state have complied with the new law as its legality is tested in our courts, it seems MU Health Care unfortunately felt forced to go further than the letter of the law when it ended gender-affirming care for transgender minors.

Unions are the backbone of our party, our state, and our country. Without Unions, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

We are in good company if we have the support of Unions as we work to #fireJoshHawley in 2024. #VoteBlue2024

Saturday promises great weather and a perfect opportunity for a stroll with Democrats to show our support for Labor.

We have a strong economic message to bring to Labor and the spectators. Biden is bringing billions to Missouri to re-build roads, expand high speed internet across rural MO, clean up our water and more that will provide good jobs for working families. Let’s show Cole County that the Democratic Party is the political party that has their backs.

The Labor Day parade is an easy parade for our group. Just show up with your Cole County Democrats t-shirt or a blue t-shirt, comfortable walking shoes and some water to promenade with us. The parade route is short and will take an hour or less. Bicycles, wagons, strollers, well-behaved animals of all varieties are welcomed and encouraged!

We will gather at 10:30am in the parking lot of the Truman Building and across from the Capitol Plaza Hotel. Look for the blue, antique Ford Galaxy convertible with all of your Democratic friends standing around it. The parade starts at 11am. We will have banners and candy to pass out. Be sure to bring water bottles and umbrellas or anything you need to keep comfortable. Please join us!

Help us show the Cole County that we are the party of the people!
