From the Chair’s Desk

We had another incredible week on the #TakeBackFL tour! After two successful weeks of the Take Back Florida Tour in Central and South Florida, we turned our focus to the Northeast corner of the state. We started in Clay County, where supporters packed the local party office, kicking off the day’s stops with grassroots organizers. Over 50 Clay County Democrats came out in the morning to hear about our vision and to commit to doing voter registration. In downtown Jacksonville, we held a press conference addressing the housing and affordability crisis, ahead of the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by President Biden last year. Later that night, the Duval County Democrats hosted a rally calling on organizers to build on the momentum established here after the historic election of Mayor Donna Deegan. We are building momentum for our National Voter Registration Day of Action. So far over 1,000 Democrats from across the state have joined us on our tour stops committing to registering voters and signing them up for vote by mail. I’m excited to get back on the trail to visit some of our small, medium, and large counties down the west coast of Florida. See you soon!

September 19th is National Voter Registration Day! The Florida Democratic Party is hosting a statewide day of action, and we are looking forward to partnering with each DEC, Club, and Caucus across the state to host a Day of Action to register voters and sign them up for vote-by-mail.In the coming weeks we will be:

  • launching a detailed toolkit for your organization to use when planning your events.
  • hosting multiple training sessions to get everyone caught up on the new voter registration laws and best practices when out in the field talking with a voter.

Port Orange Special Election

This Tuesday, August 22, the city of Port Orange is having a special election for a city council seat – and we need Democrats to #TakeBack Port Orange! Democrat Sarah Jones is running for the position. The Volusia County DEC has created this open phone bank to call Democrats and get out the vote before election day. You can access it below:

We need you to forward this to your volunteers and get on the phone. We’ve got the momentum from our victory in Jacksonville… and now it’s time for us to pitch in to do it again!

Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.

Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.

That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.

From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
