“We simply can’t afford another election like the one that put Donald Trump, Josh Hawley and other Republican extremists in national office.  Republicans are denying our reproductive rights, no matter how many people it hurts. They’re making it harder to vote, keeping voters in Missouri from participating in the most fundamental act in our democracy. They want to roll back our historic progress on LGBTQ+ rights and endanger vulnerable people here and across the country.

MAGA Republicans are simply not fit to lead Missouri or our nation toward the future we’d like to see.

Hawley Voted Against Veterans Burn Pit Legislation and its benefit to America’s Heroes

One year after Josh Hawley voted against Veterans, the deadline for Veterans to file their claim for PACT Act healthcare benefits was extended. The bill makes it easier for Veterans and their caregivers made ill by burn pits used to incinerate waste in Iraq and Afghanistan to access health care benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Department of Veterans Affairs has extended the filing deadline for retroactive disability compensation claims under the PACT Act through Monday, after technical problems hampered the process for veterans attempting to file. VA officials announced Wednesday night that the deadline for the disability claims or submission of intentions to file a claim is now 11:59 p.m. Aug. 14 for compensation to be backdated to Aug. 10, 2022 — the date the legislation was signed into law. Read more at Military.com

President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he’s interested in expanding a federal program to compensate people who have gotten sick because of the country’s nuclear weapons development and testing programs.

The St. Louis region has struggled for decades with contamination left over from the effort to develop the atomic bomb in the 1940s. President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he’s interested in expanding a federal program to compensate people who have gotten sick because of the country’s nuclear weapons development and testing programs.  The Associated Press reported Biden told a crowd in New Mexico he was ”prepared to help in terms of making sure that those folks are taken care of.” The comment came a day after the president’s energy secretary stopped short of voicing support for the measure during a trip to St. Louis. Read more at the Missouri Independent

Trial set for Sept. 11 on ballot title for Missouri abortion rights amendment

Cole County Judge Beetem promises fast decision to get initiative delayed by fiscal note fight finalized for signature gathering A Cole County judge promised Thursday he would rule quickly after a Sept. 11 trial over the language voters will see when they consider an initiative petition to reinstate the right to an abortion.

At a hearing on challenges to the ballot titles written for six proposed petitions, Circuit Judge Jon Beetem told attorneys that he knows whatever he decides will be appealed. And after a recently resolved dispute between State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick and Attorney General Andrew Bailey delayed other action on the petitions for more than 100 days, time is short for the collection of roughly 170,000 signatures needed to make the 2024 ballot.

Pro-Trump Kansas and Missouri senators don’t have much choice but to stick with him | Opinion

Once again, the Kansas-Missouri insurrection caucus in the U.S. Senate rushed to Donald Trump’s defense on Tuesday after the announcement of the former president’s long-anticipated indictment on charges stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and his fraudulent attempt to stay in power. Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, whose raised fist of encouragement to Trump’s supporters on Jan. 6 is perhaps the defining image of that day, quickly responded on Twitter: “Biden DOJ unveils the latest effort to stop Trump from running against Biden — totally unprecedented in American history.”
