- KEEP WORKERS SAFE FROM EXTREME HEAT
Lost amid the headlines over wildfire smoke choking the East Coast, Puerto Rico endured temperatures that felt as hot as 125 degrees this month, posing a severe risk to health and safety. This is a danger to folks on the job in particular, and a danger that will arise more and more often as climate change worsens – days with unsafe heat conditions are expected to double between now and 2050. The federal government has long been dragging its feet on issuing an occupational heat stress rule to account for this increasing risk, and only California, Oregon, Washington and Minnesota have heat standards for labor at the state level. Let’s contact the White House and the Labor Department and let them know we want to see this rule in place as soon as possible, and reach out to our state legislators and governors to insist they take action closer to home. - KEEP MILITIA SYMPATHIZERS OFF THE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE
Part of the work of the House Homeland Security Committee is protecting Americans from terrorism. Yet multiple Republicans serving on that committee have made comments that call into question their opposition to domestic terrorists. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has parroted extremist calls for a “national divorce,” and Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) responded to Donald Trump’s indictment with language experts warned was a call to war for militias. We cannot trust either of these people to serve our best interests in a time of increased right-wing violence. Let’s urge our House members to support efforts to remove them from this committee.
- EXPAND THE CHILD TAX CREDIT AND MAKE IT PERMANENT
The expanded Child Tax Credit was the largest tax cut for middle and working class families in a generation. It lifted nearly 4 million children out of poverty and decreased hunger by 26% before we let it expire. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) spent years fighting for the new Child Tax Credit, and she intends to see it made permanent with the American Family Act. Let’s contact our members of Congress and let them know we support this bill, H.R.3899, and a permanent expanded Child Tax Credit.
- WRITE LETTERS TO OHIO VOTERS ABOUT IMPORTANT SPECIAL ELECTION RELATED TO ABORTION RIGHTS.After abortion rights were affirmed in several red and red-leaning states, Republicans in Ohio are trying to fend off an initiative codifying abortion rights by requiring all ballot initiatives to need a 60% majority for passage, rather than a simple 50%. They are doing this through a special election on August 8, a time when many people are busy with summer plans and do not have their minds on voting. Vote Forward has launched a letter-writing campaign to mobilize young, Democratic-leaning women in Ohio to turn out for the upcoming special election. Let’s join Vote Forward and help turn out the vote; we do not have to be from Ohio to participate, and we have until August 1st to mail our letters.

STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS
- PA – RAISE THE WAGE
The minimum wage in Pennsylvania has been stuck at $7.25 for 14 years now. But after Democrats retained the governorship and recapturing the House last fall, they got to work on earning support for a $15 wage, indexed to inflation, and they’re now built a bipartisan coalition to try to shepherd it through, including a Republican state senator who will take the lead on it in that body. If we live in PA, let’s contact our legislators and let them know we want their votes for House Bill 1500/Senate Bill 743 and are eager to see the minimum wage raised at last.
