There is a direct connection between Republican extremist policies, women being denied their freedoms and the surge in deaths from mass shootings. Connect the dots for yourself with this StoryMap.

Direct result of MAGA Republican policies

“I wanted to address my senators, Cruz and Cornin, who, uh, neither of whom regrettably are in the room right now. But I would like for them to know that what happened to me, I think most people in this room would agree was horrific, but it’s a direct result of the policies that they support. I nearly died on their watch. And furthermore, as a result of what happened to me, I may have been robbed of the opportunity to have children in the future.

And it’s because of the policies that they support.

What happened to me was horrible, but I am one of many, and quite frankly I’m lucky. I’m lucky that I have a husband that could take me to the hospital. I don’t have other children that I had to worry about finding healthcare for. I have a job that was understanding that allowed me to grieve for three days as I waited to almost die. What about all of the women that don’t have those same opportunities, that don’t have access to healthcare, that don’t have health insurance, that don’t have a partner? What about them?” – Amanda Zurawski

Texas sued by women

“A group of Texas women are suing their state government over its abortion ban, saying the legislation which enacted it is too vague and left doctors unable to provide necessary care to protect their health as well as the health of their fetuses. The suit was filed by five women who sought abortions after the Texas ban went into effect and were denied despite the risk and harm that their pregnancies posed to their health and that of their fetuses or future children.

Under the Texas state law, no pregnancy in which a fetal heartbeat may be detected can be aborted. The law does not include exceptions for cases of incest or rape. The law states all abortions are criminalized as such “unless the mother’s life is in danger” without specifying when the procedure can be performed, leaving many doctors at a loss for when to intervene.” – The Hill

Right wing extremist judges

Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, an appointee of President Donald J. Trump invalidated the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of an abortion pill, mifepristone. The decision, should it withstand court challenges, could make it more difficult for patients to obtain abortions even in states where abortion is legal. The preliminary ruling by who is known for his conservative views and openly opposes abortion access, could be the most consequential abortion decision since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. – NY Times

Another Texas mass killing

Texas man who allegedly shot his neighbors after they asked him to stop firing off rounds in his yard. The victims were between the ages of 8 and 31 years old and that all were believed to be from Honduras. All were shot “from the neck up,” he said. The attack was the latest act of gun violence in what has been a record pace of mass shootings in the U.S. so far this year, some of which have also involved semiautomatic rifles. The mass killings have played out in a variety of places — a Nashville schoola Kentucky banka Southern California dance hall, and now a rural Texas neighborhood inside a single-story home. – Yahoo

Gun safety laws weakened

Trump appointee, U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman‘s order and opinion that the Second Amendment “as informed by Founding-era history and tradition” does not exclude 18- to 20-year-olds is the first significant legal decision since a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling on guns in June, Reuters notes.

Texas gun restrictions have eased in recent years, even as mass shootings like the one at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde have rocked the state, per the NYT — which notes that people who were 21 or younger were behind six of the nine deadliest shooting massacres in the U.S. since 2018. – Axios

Shannon Watts, founder of the gun-control organization Moms Demand Action, in a statement called the Texas ruling “yet another example of a radical court operating wildly out of step with the American people and the Constitution. After hearing Uvalde survivors demanding common-sense gun safety measures — including raising the age to buy an assault weapon — a Trump-appointed judge in Texas just issued a dangerous ruling that would allow teenagers to carry handguns in public.” – Axios

Elections have consequences

Your vote determines pick the politicians and the judges to write the laws we all live by. Had enough of MAGA Republican policies that deny women their freedoms and weaken gun safety regulations? Next time vote for a Democrat.
