MDP Celebrates Announcement of Chicago as Host of
2024 Democratic National Convention
Kansas City, Mo – The Democratic National Committee today announced Chicago will host the 2024 Democratic National Convention at the United Center from August 19 to 22. “I’m happy to know the National Democratic Convention will be returning to the heart of America to our neighbor in Illinois,” said Russ Carnahan, Chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party.
Chicago’s convention bid was supported by a wide range of mid-western Democrats who represent the diversity of the party, demonstrating the formidable coalition that will help re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris, and elect Democrats up and down the ticket. The region will showcase President Biden’s economic agenda which is rebuilding our roads and bridges, unleashing a manufacturing boom, and creating good-paying middle-class jobs.
“Missouri will be crucial in the 2024 general elections,” said Carnahan. “I believe we have some amazing assets on our side. Our diversity is our strength and our unity is our power. We have a deep bench of experienced current and former Democratic leaders with records of service to be championed. We have a talented and passionate new generation of leaders who are energized to move Missouri to a brighter future beyond the backward policies coming out of the one-party Republican rule in Jefferson City–policies that regularly put Missouri in the national news in ways that are nothing short of cringe-worthy. I encourage you to join me as we look forward to 2024!”

Guns are No. 1 killer of kidsWhat are Missouri lawmakers doing about it?
It’s been two weeks since the Nashville school shooting, where six people died. It reflects a troubling trend: Guns are now the No. 1 cause of death for American children and teenagers, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. The Missouri Democratic Party helped KSDK extensively with this report. With gun violence being the number one killer of American children, what is our government doing? We analyzed over 40 gun-related bills filed in the Missouri House over the last few months. Democrats in the super-minority say most of their bills aimed at gun violence prevention don’t get anywhere. The ones the House Speaker calls for a vote are Republican bills that would make guns more accessible. Among the bills on the table: legislation that would allow firearms in public transit and churches. Watch and read the full report at: KSDK.com

Weekly Call to Action:
Call your State Representative and Senator, and tell them NO changes to the Initiative Petition Process. We have four weeks of legislative session left, and we need to keep up our defense of the Initiative Petition Process. Tell your electeds to leave the Initiative Petition alone and not to silence the voices of Missourians. You can find your legislator here.
Call your State Representative and Senator, and tell them to fund our public libraries and to remove their blatantly partisan language banning any funds being used on any entity that associates with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. Not only is defunding our libraries out of spite for standing up against book bans, it’s against the Missouri Constitution. DEI programs are common among every professional entity. Every Fortune 500 company has a DEI initiative. 150 organizations representing businesses across Missouri have signed a letter opposing House Republicans’ attack and various state agencies have testified that this language would devastate their ability to function. You can find your legislator here.
Help us with candidate recruitment for 2024. You know your community and the people in it better than we do, and that’s why we need your help to find a candidate in all 163 House Districts. If you or someone you know is interested in running for state house, or just wants to have a discussion about what running would be like, have them fill out this form.
