Tell our MoC’s: No negotiation with MAGA hostage-takers!

During the State of the Union address President Biden called out Republicans who want to take the economy hostage in order to slash Social Security and Medicare. We want our Members of Congress to stand strong and refuse to give in to the MAGA hostage-takers.

For those of us represented by Rep. Thompson, we have a special ask of him. Most of the Blue Dog coalition he belongs to is undermining the President’s (and our) stance that there should be no negotiations over whether the U.S. will pay the debts it already owes. Republican threats to crash the economy and ruin the credit of the United States unless we cut services should be met with unwavering resistance. We want Rep. Thompson to tell the rest of the Blue Dogs to stop rolling over for MAGA extremists.

Example call scripts and contact info are below!

(For an in-depth look at the debt ceiling issue, here’s Indivisible National’s guide:

P.S.- Please Save the Date for the next Indivisible Yolo General meeting, Monday, February 27th.

Marissa Barrera made an impassioned and inspiring speech urging police accountability on the anniversary of her brother Michael’s murder at the hands of Woodland police. Three of the officers remain on the force and DA Reisig took no action to find justice for Michael Barrera. Thank you to those who were able to show up to support her call for justice.

Call script- To our Members of Congress: don’t negotiate with MAGA hostage-takers- raise the debt ceiling now

California’s 2 Senators:

A lot of Indivisible Yolo members have a new representative! You can find out whether your representative is Rep. Mike Thompson or Rep. Doris Matsui here.

Example call script (your own words are best!):
Hi, my name is [your name] and my zip code is [zip code]. I’m a voter and a constituent of [Sen. Feinstein/Sen. Padilla/Rep. Matsui] and I am asking the [Senator/Representative] to demand their Republican colleagues lift the debt ceiling now, without conditions. MAGA extremists are taking the economy hostage and using it to try to force cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and more. Will the [Senator/Representative] commit to demanding a clean debt ceiling increase without giving an inch to the MAGA hostage-takers?

Special call for Rep. Thompson: tell your fellow Blue Dogs not to roll over for MAGA hostage-takers (thanks to Indivisible Sonoma for the call to action):
Hi, my name is [your name] and my zip code is [zip code]. I’m a voter and a constituent of Rep. Thompson. The debt ceiling must be lifted without conditions by the Republican House. But all but one other member of the Congressman’s Blue Dog Coalition are undermining the president’s correct refusal to negotiate. We need Democrats to provide a united front. While I appreciate the Congressman’s refusal to join his fellow Blue Dogs in their dangerous breaking of ranks, I’d like to ask him to do more: please tell the other “Blue Dogs” to stop rolling over for MAGA extremists. Thank you.
