Training pro-public school candidates

4 mins read

Thanks to the support of grassroots donors like you, we just finished our first training for potential School Board candidates in Pittsburgh, PA!

Conservative extremists are taking over School Boards, trying to ban books, ban the Pride flag, and ban open discussion of race and gender in our classrooms.

We’re training an army of pro-public education activists to fight back, teaching finer points of education policy and organizing tactics that work.

And, these trainings are free for candidates, but we incur real expenses to run them. Help us pay for training sites, trainer costs, printing, and more by donating to Promote the Vote PA today.

The latest wave of conservative extremism on School Boards didn’t come from nowhere.

It was nurtured by dark-money groups operating on a national scale. They’re taking aim at diversity and equity in our schools, especially attacking LGBTQ+ youth.

To fight back, we need to train local activists who will fight back in their communities, and restore sanity to our school boards.

Over 2,000 School Board seats are up for election this year in Pennsylvania alone. Will you help us fight back?

PA schools BAN pride flag. Fight back!

UPDATE: The Central Bucks, PA school district has formally voted this week to BAN the Pride flag. Other PA school districts are forcing teachers to deadname trans students by only using their birth names, and are on witch-hunts to ban “woke” books. Help us FIGHT BACK by donating to our school board fund, which will go to pro-education and pro-equality candidates.

In PA’s Central Bucks School District,an extreme right-wing school board has made human rights a partisan punching bag.

Despite strong opposition from LGBTQ+ students and members of the community, the Central Bucks School Board plans to approve a policy that would ban the pride flag, a symbol of acceptance and safety for LGBTQ+ students, from their buildings.

School board members are elected to represent EVERYONE in the school district, not to engage in petty and harmful culture wars. And this year, over 2,000 school board seats in PA are up for election.

Right-wing Central Bucks School Board members say that banning the pride flag is designed to promote education instead of indoctrination … a rationale straight out of Orwell.

Inclusion is not indoctrination. The Central Bucks School Board is collaborating with regressive exclusion that will harm students.

We’re fighting back, because our children deserve better. This serves no purpose other than to foment hate and division in our country.

You can’t be neutral on a moving train. And our train needs to move forward!
