To our members of Congress: stay in session!
Republicans will take the House in the next legislative session, so there is an extremely limited time for Democrats to use their majority to pass legislation. This week, Congress is back in session. We need to convince the Democratic majority to stay in session and use every remaining minute of the Democratic trifecta to pass legislation we need now and to reduce the harm Republicans can do in January. We’ll need to lift the debt ceiling and pass an appropriations omnibus before the next session so that Republicans can’t attach harmful measures to this must-pass legislation. (Details about the final session priorities can be found here: https://www.indivisible.org/resource/2022-final-legislative-session)
Call scripts are below, as well as an updated link to phone banks for Sen. Raphael Warnock’s campaign. The runoff election in Georgia is where we can still make a difference this election cycle. There’s a huge difference between the effectiveness of 50 seats in the Senate, where ties have to be broken by VP Harris and Republicans can bog down the process, and 51 seats where Democrats have an outright majority. A 51 seat Democratic majority would take away Republicans’ current power to slow-walk Democratic nominees (including any Supreme Court or other judicial nominations), and also take away some of the power conservative Democrats like Senators Manchin and Sinema are using to block nominations and legislation.
Help us send Reverend Raphael Warnock back to the Senate! Georgia’s runoff election is December 6, 2022, so there is no time to waste!
Join us on Zoom to call voters this Tuesday, 3-5pm PST and Sunday 1-3 pm PST. Our two-hour phonebanks are co-hosted by Sister District Yolo and Indivisible Yolo. We start with an informative introduction. Then, we break into small groups to give beginners the one-on-one help they need. Trained and experienced volunteers are always on hand to answer your questions. And we always celebrate our collective success at the end!

Sample Call Script:
Hi, my name is [name]. I’m a voter and a constituent of [Senator Feinstein/Sen. Padilla/Rep. Garamendi/Rep. Matsui/Rep. Thompson]. My zip code is [zip code]. I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to stay in session 7 days a week to use every last minute of our Democratic trifecta.
Please pass bills like the Marriage Equality Act and Electoral Count Act reforms that are ready to pass on the floor, but that Republicans would never bring up for a vote next session.
And prevent hostage taking in the 118th Congress. This means lifting the debt ceiling so Republicans don’t have a hostage to take next year–threatening Social Security, Medicare and the entire global economy! And it means passing an appropriations omnibus before Republicans take control of the House, giving them another hostage taking opportunity next Congress. Thank you.
