General Election Status
As I write this, we have seven days before voting ends. I’m happy to report that the Coconino Democrats are coming through strong for our candidates. I’ll keep this short because there is still much to be done.
- We’ve supplied Mission for Arizona canvassers with the popular Sample Ballots and with doorhangers for those doors where no one answers.
- Mission, with our local volunteers, is well on the way to hitting every targeted door in and around Flagstaff
- Our Grand Canyon PCs and volunteers hosted a successful event with Tom O’Halleran and Mae Peshlakai
- Mae’s campaign hosted an event in Cameron
- Our Tuba City organizer hit 300 doors in Tuba City last weekend alone
- We’ve been at the Tuba City flea market, the Leupp flea market, and the Flagstaff Community Market talking with voters about our candidates and the importance of voting in this Midterm
- With the help of the Kyle Nitschke campaign (LD7 Senate), we’ve converted over 300 “federal only” voter registrations (and counting, the deadline to get these voters eligible to vote the full ballot is tomorrow)
- We’re working phone banks to get Democrats who haven’t voted their mailed ballots to get those ballots in
- We worked with the DCCC to create and staff a text bank last weekend that hit 12,000 voters in CD2
- We’ve been “curing” ballots with missing or mismatched signatures on a daily basis since early voting began
- One person has needed a ride to an early voting site and we helped her. She came out of her house for the ride with our Sample Ballot in hand
- Friday, we are sponsoring a Dio de los Muertos celebration (flyer below) and March to the Drop Box with our Latino community
- We’re feeding Mission volunteers this weekend and co-hosting an Election Night Party for volunteers with Tom O’Halleran’s campaign
- Finally, we are witnessing the free, fair, and accurate administration of vote counting per Arizona law and will observe the administration of voting and transfer of ballots from voting locations on Election Day.
We couldn’t do all of this without the amazing support of our donors. Your generosity enabled us to hire a full-time Operations Manager, print nearly four times the number of sample ballots we had in 2020 and mail them to all Democrats in the County, and so much more.
Our volunteers are amazing. They are have canvassed in wind and rain. They have set up and taken down tents, talked to thousands of voters are events, at doors, and on the phones. They have folded and stuffed and stamped and written post cards.
Let’s hope it’s enough. What’s likely is that we won’t be sure until mid-December. Keep the faith and keep working through November 8!
Sincerest thanks,
Ann Heitland, your County Chair
