Republican ABORTION FLIP FLOP awards

Republican ABORTION FLIP FLOP awards

Republican Flip Flop awards recognize hypocrisy in banning abortions and then flipping to fool voters.

This level of acting is rarely seen outside movies, so it is only fitting that they get their own reward. We mapped some of the best Republican FLIP FLOPPERs who were for abortion bans till they flipped just before the upcoming elections. Send other FLIP FLOP award nominations to be added to the map here.

“To describe these Republicans as flip-floppers is to be overly charitable to them,” said Ben Ray, a spokesman for EMILY’s List, a group that backs female Democratic candidates who support abortion rights. “What they are doing is nothing short of a politically motivated lie.” – NBC

Scott Jensen (R) MN Gubernatorial candidate

Before: The Minnesota gubernatorial candidate said in March, while vying for the GOP nomination, “I would try to ban abortion.” A month later, he was even stronger, making it a promise. Responding to Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) claim that Jensen and his running mate supported banning abortions, Jensen said: “No kidding, Sherlock. You’re darn right we do.” He added: “We’re going to get something done when we’re governor: We’re going to ban abortions. That’s really not news.”

Now: Jensen this week began running an ad stating: “In Minnesota, [abortion] is a protected constitutional right, and no governor can change that. And I’m not running to do that.” Jensen’s website has also changed its language on this issue. It previously said Jensen “believes in the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death,” but it has now excised the “from conception to natural death” language. – WaPo

Jim Schultz (R) MN Attorney General candidate

The @GOP’s nominee for Minnesota Attorney General Jim Schultz said he supports an abortion ban — then had the website with his extreme views taken down. Republicans can run, but they can’t hide. – Twitter

Republicans tried to sidestep the issue of abortion. Now they’re seeking a reset. For some, that has meant walking back support for a total ban, embracing more limited restrictions on abortion… Republicans’ first step was admitting they had an abortion problem. Now, GOP candidates are racing to limit self-inflicted damage — and trying to blunt Democrats’ edge on the issue — before November’s midterm elections. For some, that has meant walking back support for a total ban, embracing more limited restrictions on abortion. – NBC News
