National Voter Registration Day
National Voter Registration Day is today, September 20, 2022. It was first observed in 2012 to commemorate our right to vote. Since its inception, nearly 4.7 million voters have registered to vote. Celebrated every September, National Voter Registration Day seeks to create an awareness of the importance of voting. The first step of this right is to register to vote. The purpose of this day is to make sure everyone can vote and to reach those persons who may not already be registered. Tonight, The Great Lakes Chapter of the Links Inc. is hosting a forum of Clerks to discuss and explain the opportunities to register voters and administer elections in their municipalities. The forum participants are Lisa Brown, Oakland County Clerk; Janice Winfrey, City Clerk, Detroit; Melvin Brook, Bloomfield Township Clerk; and Heaster Wheeler, former Assistant Secretary of State. The forum is tonight, September 20th, at 7pm. Attendance is welcome via Zoom or Facebook Live.
