The GOP’s forced-birth laws create an unfunded mandate on pregnant people and their families.
The new forced-birth laws won’t just force people to have babies against their will.
It will also force people to spend thousands of dollars, creating what the GOP is always railing against – an “unfunded mandate.”
If the GOP is serious about forcing people to produce other humans, make them pay for the work.
Up front. No more freeloading on other people’s backs.
Minimum:
– Universal health care.
– Universal parental leave.
– Universal child care.

(Seriously, folks, the nice people who answer the phones in these offices are getting blasted from the forced-birth fans and the guns-everywhere-all-the-time people. They are being screamed at, and called terrible names. Some are quitting, because it’s so soul-killing.
If you have a minute, we’ve modified Action #3 into a “Thank you” for everyone involved in passing important gun safety legislation, including the staff manning the phones.)
Last week, a caravan of 52 school buses, representing over 4300 kids killed by gunfire just since 2020, rolled up to Sen. Ted Cruz’ home.
Organized by artist Manuel Oliver, whose son, Joaquin, was one of 18 people killed in the 2018 Parkland massacre, it will be visiting the homes and offices of other senators beholden to the death-grip of the NRA.
Action #1: Get kids involved in writing their legislators. Cruz, through a staffer, was presented with a framed copy of a 12-year-old Joquin’s letter aruing for universal background checks, five years before he was murdered.
Actions #2-4: Contact your legislators AGAIN. Over and over. Make sure your relatives in forced-birther states impress upon their legislators that their constituents see the hypocrisy of their positions.

On Thursday, GOP Sen. James Lankford (Okla.) blocked a Democratic request to unanimously pass a bill seeking to protect interstate travel for abortion, being enough of a d**k to label desperate people traveling to find reproduction services at great difficulty and expense “Abortion Tourism.”
This is going to be a process, so let’s start small. Right where they get so nervous, they start forgetting their lines.

We respect law professor Michelle Goodwin’s analysis of the living power of the 13th Amendment to reach through history to protect Black women’s bodily autonomy in the present day.
We’re asking our legislators to respect it too, and write a bill protecting abortion rights using it as a basis.

– protect both pharmacists and access for people who need medications that might also be considered abortifascients.
– Declare that forced-birth for minors is child abuse.
– Declare protection for those seeking abortions under the 1st, 8th and 13th amendments.

In 1970 the Woman’s Strike for Equality was held in New York City, Washington, DC and cities nationwide. Hundreds of thousands of women marched. In 2022, we Strike again. It is time to fight back, and insist that Congress pass Federal legislation to protect our rights, and limit the ability of state legislatures to defund clinics in pursuit of the GOP’s religious dogmatic zealotry.
This is my body, and I will not allow the GOP to use it as a weapon in their political war. Some people say this is a war against women, I say that does not go far enough, this is a war against reason. A war against common decency. A war against our Constitution.
And I promise you, it is a war the GOP cannot win. I will not allow it. We cannot allow it.
This is my body, and I will use it as my own weapon. I will use it in Michigan. North Dakota. Pennsylvania. Wherever the GOP attacks me, I will fight back. I will vow to work against any candidate who votes for this type of anti-woman bill. I will contribute my time and money to candidates who protect my right to Choice. I will educate myself and others on the issues, and I will help women run for office.
This is my body and my promise. The GOP may have started this war, but I promise this they are not going to like how it ends.

Thanks to all who helped make last month’s Swap Meet Justice, our last-Sunday-of-the-month social justice fair, a great success!
That includes all the community volunteers and professionals who gave their time and expertise, and all those community members and organizations who shared information about this event online and through flyers and those who donate to keep this event going!(Swapmeetjustice.org)
Thanks to your help, our coalition was able to accomplish the following at last month’s fair:
– (107) people were able to get their next COVID vaccination, along with $50 gift cards, $10 dollar lunch vouchers at Juarez Tacos’ food truck and a plethora of great takeaways, including free testing kits.
– (13) people were able to meet with Medi-CAL navigators and sign up right there at the fair for benefits.
– (5) people were able to sit with attorneys from the V.C. Public Defenders’ office and get their records expunged. This is currently the only free monthly expungement clinic available on a weekend in CA.
– (10) people were able to speak with our labor attorney about issues in their workplaces.
– (60) people were able to talk to our immigration attorneys to get expert advice on their status issues.
– (3) people were able to finish applications for citizenship and green card renewals with our community volunteers and immigration experts. Several more will return with more information next month to finish their applications.
– Swap meet shoppers were given educational information about notario fraud, where unqualified individuals scam thousands of dollars from families trying to accomplish their immigration journey.
– Information was given about affordable and accessible physical, mental and emotional health care options within the county.
– Westminster Clinic – Oxnard joined us for a few hours to give much-appreciated blood pressure and glucose tests. We hope they will return as regular members of our coalition.

You Can Make a Difference! Do you want to help Democrats win in the 2022 elections? You can write Get Out The Vote (GOTV) postcards to help get Democratic voters to the polls! Studies have shown that receiving a colorful postcard with a short punchy message is the most effective way to persuade a voter to get to the polls.
One of Indivisible Ventura’s members is working with Postcards to Swing States (PSS) to coordinate GOTV postcarding focused on Senate races in swing states. PSS identifies the campaigns, writes the message, and provides the voter names and addresses. She will provide the cards and, if needed, the stamps. If you want to participate, please send an email to her at ivpostcards@gmail.com. She will add you to her writer roster and email you a description of the campaigns she is currently running. You decide which campaigns you want to join and specify the number of cards you want. If you live locally, you may collect your supplies from her address in Ventura.
