Call your Senators, and save the date for a June 11th March for Our Lives rally
After the mass shootings in Buffalo and then in Uvalde, gun control is a topic again in Congress. Like all other common sense, popular legislation, gun violence prevention is doomed to fail unless we get rid of the filibuster. This week, we’re telling our Senators we need action from them: end the filibuster and pass gun control laws, including universal background checks.
Indivisible is also partnering with March for Our Lives for a nationwide show of support for gun control reform. So save the date for Saturday, June 11th and RSVP for a March for Our Lives event.
What can you do locally? Republicans are spending so much effort to stop the will of the people, from voter suppression to using the filibuster to stop popular reforms. So it’s important to participate in our democracy! Ballots have been mailed out for the current June 7th election and we need members to get out the vote for our endorsed candidate, Cynthia Rodriguez for District Attorney. Sign up now for the final June dates to call Yolo County Democratic voters and get the word out: 4-6pm
Sunday, June 5th.
FYI: though Indivisible Yolo has not endorsed any candidate in the Yolo County Sheriff’s race, we believe in an informed electorate. Members should know that Tommy Hayes is running on a platform of expanded gun access; specifically, drastically loosening restrictions for concealed carry licenses.

Example call script:
Hi, my name is [name]. I’m a voter and a constituent of Senator [Feinstein/Padilla]. My zip code is [zip code].
I’m calling because it’s past time for legislation to prevent gun violence. Realistically, we need to end the filibuster in order to pass even the most uncontroversial, widely accepted reforms on any subject. I’m asking the Senator to abolish the filibuster and pass legislation to prevent gun violence, including universal background checks. Thank you.
