DEMOCRACY ON THE BRINK?
A CRITICAL WEEK FOR OUR COUNTRY

Join Us in a Lively Political Discussion
“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.” Dr Martin Luther King, Jr
Monday, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his leadership in helping pass the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, while confronting the Jim Crow faction ruling only for the wealthy white few. Today, as we face these same forces intent on silencing Black Americans, we are called upon to heed Dr. King’s visionary call to work for our freedom in order to protect and extend his legacy. This MLK Day, join the King Family in a national day of action demanding our Congress pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act so that every American is able to cast a ballot and have it counted.

The U.S. Senate must pass the Freedom to Vote Act, landmark legislation that will protect our right to vote, ending partisan gerrymandering, and decreasing the power of big moneyed special interests..
Votes We can Expect:
- Procedural vote → to open debate
- Change the filibuster – need every single Dem
- Vote on FTVA + JLVRAA
Sample Messages:
- “Hi, my name is {NAME} and I’m a constituent calling from {LOCATION} to ask that Senator {NAME} vote to open debate and modify the filibuster to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. We, the voters, must be able to safely and freely cast our ballots to elect leaders that deliver for us. Can I count on Senator {NAME} to help pass these bills?”
- No matter our color, party, or zip code, we all want an equal say in the decisions that shape our future. It’s time for the Senate to exercise their majority and pass the Freedom to Vote Act to enact national standards for voting.
- Honoring Dr. Kings’s legacy requires passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Act
- Every Vote must be Counted
- Prevent Partisan Politicians from Sabotaging the Results of our Elections
- Exercise our Majority
