Senator Feinstein: Finish your work before taking a holiday

2 mins read

Feinstein: Protect our Democracy. Fix the Filibuster. Finish your work before taking a holiday.

We have one simple ask of Sen. Feinstein right now: finish the work before going on vacation. Republicans have already used the filibuster 3 times to block the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. We need these democracy reforms that would expand early voting, stop gerrymandering, and fight the influence of money in politics. Republicans are passing hundreds of voter suppression laws in state legislatures, and we are rapidly running out of time to stop much of the damage they’ve done to our democracy.

This week we’re calling her office every day to let her know she needs to do everything in her power to publicly and privately advocate for fixing the filibuster to ensure passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act- and that she needs to do it before going on a holiday. No recess for the Senate until these bills are passed.

Example call scripts are below.

We need to fix the filibuster and pass voting rights protections. The Senate should not be going on recess for the holidays until the work is done.

Sen. Feinstein: Your vacation can wait, democracy can’t!

Sample Call Script:
Hi, my name is [name]. I’m a voter and a constituent of Senator Feinstein. My zip code is [zip code].

I am calling today to urge Senator Feinstein to publicly advocate for fixing or abolishing the filibuster and work with her fellow Democratic Senators to see the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act are passed before the holiday recess.

The Senate should not go on recess until these bills are passed. Democracy reform is urgent; vacation is not.
