How Mitch McConnell politicized the American justice system

How Mitch McConnell politicized the American justice system

Mitch McConnell has stacked the courts with conservative judges. See how his scheme affects every American on things ranging from their health, voting rights and control over their own bodies.

“Americans broadly support Supreme Court upholding Roe v. Wade and oppose Texas abortion law” – Washington Post
Arizona Court decision restricts voting rights. “The people affected by these provisions tend to be poor, Latino or Native American.” – Boston University
“Judge Engelhardt (a Trump appointee) observes that a virus that has killed some 765,000 Americans is, after all, “non-life-threatening to a vast majority of employees”.– NY Times

Stack the Courts and Legislate From the Bench

McConnell subverts justice to please wealthy Republican donors. “McConnell knows that the GOP is destined to become a minority party but, they can still obstruct as long as the filibuster rules remain in place. McConnell can stack the federal courts with extremist judges and use them to bypass both congress and the president.” – Washington Monthly

Voter suppression

Supreme Court Decision in Arizona Is Bad News for Voting Rights “The Supreme Court’s decision in Brnovich v. DNC upheld two restrictions. One requiring election officials to discard the ballots of citizens who vote at the wrong precinct and the other outlawing collection of ballots by campaign workers and others for delivery to polling places. The people affected by these provisions tend to be poor, tend, in Arizona, to be Latino or Native American.” – Boston University

Overturning Roe v. Wade

Contradicting Collins’ assurances, Kavanaugh casts vote against abortion rights. Kavanaugh joined the other conservative justices in voting to erode reproductive rights, contradicting Sen. Susan Collins’ promise that he “considers Roe ‘precedent on precedent.’ – Maine Beacon

Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is out of control

“The Fifth Circuit based in New Orleans has jurisdiction over Mississippi and Texas as well as Louisiana. It has six judges appointed by Trump and confirmed by McConnell. A three-judge Fifth Circuit panel issued a stay of the Biden administration’s requirement that companies employing 100 or more people require their work force to be vaccinated against Covid-19 or to submit to masking and weekly testing. Two of the judges, Kurt Engelhardt and Kyle Duncan, are Trump appointees.

Judge Engelhardt’s offhand observation that a virus that has killed some 765,000 Americans is, after all, “non-life-threatening to a vast majority of employees” – NY Times

Fight for democracy: For the People Act

For The People Act is a robust democracy reform package that aims to give everyday people a bigger voice in politics and to create a more ethical and accountable government. – Common Cause

TakeAway: Stop McConnell’s subverting the American justice system to please his wealthy donors. Pass the For The People Act.
