March this Friday for Voting Rights!

Friday, Nov. 12th: Rally at Sen. Feinstein’s SF office and march to Sen. Padilla’s office
This Friday, November 12th, take action with the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition and join a rally at 5pm at Sen. Feinstein’s office in SF, followed by a short march to Sen. Padilla’s office.

With the results in the recent VA election, Republican-led voter suppression efforts, and Republicans filibustering the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, voting rights protections are a high priority. If the Freedom to Vote Act isn’t passed before the end of the year, not only will it be even harder to pass, the provisions to implement fair redistricting and to protect voting rights won’t be put in place for the midterm elections.

Immediately after Republicans filibustered the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, Sen. Padilla called for an end to the filibuster to protect voting rights. But Sen. Feinstein said nothing. We need her to find her voice and represent us, instead of sitting quietly while Republicans repeatedly launch racist attacks on voting rights.

We’re not done with Build Back Better:
We’d hoped we would be starting the voting rights fight this week with a win on Build Back Better (BBB). But Friday, congress passed the infrastructure bill without passing BBB. The infrastructure bill was our leverage for getting the best possible BBB deal, and unfortunately that leverage is gone now. We’re still fighting to get a bill that includes all of our priorities, and all hope is not lost- before passing the infrastructure bill, there was a commitment from conservative Democrats in the House to pass BBB once a CBO score was issued. So even though this week’s call scripts are focusing on voting rights, we’re not done with Build Back Better- expect more calls to our Representative in the near future!

Example call scripts for the Freedom to Vote Act, John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and more info on the Fight Back Friday rally and march are below.

Sen. Feinstein needs to start speaking up! We need to end the filibuster to pass voting rights protections.

Sen. Feinstein: End the filibuster and protect voting rights!
Sen. Padilla: keep speaking up!

Sample Call Script for Sen. Feinstein:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a California voter from [CITY, zip code] and I’m a member of Indivisible Yolo.

I’m calling to ask Sen. Feinstein to end the filibuster and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. I’m shocked that she was completely silent after Republicans filibustered the John Lewis Voting Rights Act last week. I need her to speak up and represent me, instead of letting Republicans continue their racist attacks on voting rights. I want her to be vocal about the need to end the filibuster to make sure these bills pass!

Sample Call Script for Sen. Padilla:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a California voter from [CITY, zip code] and I’m a member of Indivisible Yolo.

I’m calling to say protecting voting rights is important to me. I’m glad to see Sen. Padilla speaking up about the need to end the filibuster to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. Thank you and please keep fighting to end the filibuster and pass these bills.

Action: Fight Back Friday Rally and March: Nov. 12 at 5pm in SF
(meet earlier to carpool from Davis or Sacramento, see link for details)

At this point, we’ve called and emailed Sen. Feinstein again and again on the need to end the filibuster and protect voting rights, but she hasn’t taken action- now it’s a matter of public pressure. (Sen. Padilla is doing the right thing and speaking up- it’s also important to let him know we want him to keep up the fight!)

From the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition:
Join our carpool from Sacramento and Davis to travel to San Francisco for a rally at Senator Feinstein’s office (1 Post St) and a short march to Senator Padilla’s office in defense of the freedom to vote across the country.

Hope to see you there!
