Your Calls to Action:
Tell your senators to vote “YES” on the Freedom to Vote Act and to kill the filibuster to get it through! (more info)
Action #1: Call our Senators

Mini-script for Senator Feinstein (not a cosponsor): I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Sen. [___] to support S.2747 – the “Freedom to Vote Act,” a nationwide minimum standard to protect the rights of voters and to strengthen our democracy while we still have one. We’ve read that she may now be willing to support bypassing the filibuster rule to enact this bill. Please convey to the senator that her active and enthusiastic cooperation with such an effort is the basic minimum or we will be asking for her resignation.

Mini-script for Senator Padilla (cosponsor):I’m calling from [zip code] to thank Sen. [___] for supporting S.2747 – the “Freedom to Vote Act,” the  nationwide standard to protect the rights of voters and to strengthen our democracy. I also want to thank him for understanding the importance of this bill and being willing to flush the filibuster to make it happen.

Action #2: Call the White House

Mini-script: President Biden said we’re facing “the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War.” He’s right and we need him to use every lever of power and influence at his disposal to persuade the Senate to pass the Freedom To Vote Act, including speaking out against the filibuster.

White House: 202-456-1111 The White House comment line is open Tuesday to Thursday, from 11 am – 3 pm ET. When you reach a staff member, tell them your name and that you are a constituent. Then, demand that President Biden do everything in his power to help overcome the filibuster and pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

Action #3: Email Joe.

Tell Biden and our legislators that we want our post office back (more info)
“Government is not a business, and citizens are not customers. Universal. mail service is one of the defining characteristics of a civilized society, and why would anyone want to throw away something so precious at any price?” — Michael Hiltzik, LA TimesAction #1: Senators – Replace Ron Bloom and John Barger on the Board of Governors immediately.
Mini-script: I’m calling from [zip code] to ask Senator [__] to confirm two diverse and forward-looking members to the postal Board of Governors for the expired seat of Ron Bloom and expiring seat currently held by Republican John Barger (Dec. 8, 2021) immediately to stem the damage that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is actively wreaking upon the Post Office. I also want the Senator to support the Postal Service Reform Act – S.1720, which eliminates the pre-funding mandate, integrate postal retirees into Medicare, and enable USPS to offer non-postal services.

Action #2. Representatives – Congress must enable postal leadership to build the USPS of the future.

Mini-script:I’m [calling from [zip code]/writing] to ask Rep. [__] to remove artificial barriers to USPS’s success, and actively enable the postal service to bring in new revenue streams by voting “YES” to the Postal Service Reform Act – H.R.3076, the Postal Service Improvement Act – H.R.3077, and the Access to No-Fee Accounts Act. In addition, approve language in the FY22 Financial Services & General Government Appropriations Bill that directs the postal service to pilot non-bank financial services in 10 locations, half rural and half urban. Please provide the $25 billion necessary to make USPS whole from COVID-19. Only $10 billion of which has been approved by Congress.

Rep. Julia Brownley (CA-26): email, DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779

President Bidenhttps://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

It’s time to pass our budget reconciliation priorities! Contact your senators! Let’s Build Back Better! (more info)
Action #1: Call our Senators

Mini-script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen. [___] to commit to passing an inclusive recovery through reconciliation, immediately after the House sends over their bill.

We urgently need a recovery bill that lowers prescription drug prices for all Americans, expands Medicare, provides a path to citizenship, and includes generational investments in climate, housing, education and the care economy, including permanent child tax credits without work requirements, and paid family and medical leave – all while making the ultra rich and big corporations pay their fair share through the Billionaires tax at the very minimum. This cannot take a back seat to an inadequate bipartisan bill.

We need the full recovery agenda, and I’ll be watching to ensure that Sen. [___] is fighting for it.

Action #2: Email our Senators

Action #3: Get your friends and family in Arizona and West Virginia to call their Senators

Mini-script to share: I’m calling from [zip code] and and I’m furious that Senator [Sinema (AZ), Manchin (WV)] has threatened to undermine the budget reconciliation bill currently being written. There’s no excuse for risking urgent proposals like lowering drug prices, strengthening Medicare, universal child care, and climate action. Instead of political stunts, I expect them to support the Democratic agenda.

Senator [Sinema (AZ), Manchin (WV)] must stop obstructing the budget reconciliation bill based on an arbitrary and imaginary price cap. The total investment in regular Americans is long overdue and spread out over 10 years. I’m disappointed with positions [she/he] has taken so far, especially [her opposition to raising the corporate tax rate and marginal income tax rates on the wealthy/ his opposition to the CEPP] and will be watching to see if they change course.

Senator Sinema: email, DC (202) 224-4521
Senator Manchin: email, DC (202) 224-3954
