Build Back Better is in fierce negotiations right now!
A transportation funding deadline puts pressure on Democrats to pass the infrastructure bill by Oct. 31- but we need the reconciliation bill to go through first, or we lose our leverage to get Build Back Better priorities in reconciliation! We’re calling all our Members of Congress to fight for progressive priorities, and for our Representative to hold the line and vote no on the infrastructure bill until an inclusive reconciliation bill has passed. It’s especially important to note that with the U.N. climate conference also coming up just as we hope to pass reconciliation, having real climate action in the bill would lend clout to the effort to negotiate climate commitments at the conference!
Good news on re-imagining public safety!
Last week, Davis folks called in to City Council asking them to move toward a new approach to public safety by approving a new department of social services and housing independent of the police department. The City Council voted unanimously to create the department! All 36 public commenters who called in were in favor. With the creation of this department, 4 positions move out of the police department. The new independent department of 7 staff will oversee: “Early intervention and prevention coordination; mental health and crisis intervention coordination; affordable housing services; homeless services; code enforcement coordination.” Thank you to everyone who called or contacted the Council!
On Halloween 3-5pm: Virtual Phonebank for the Virginia Election
This Sunday, Sister District CA3 and East Bay Activist Alliance are hosting a virtual phonebank for the Virginia election:
“We are calling identified Democrats to talk through a voting plan–a tactic that research shows increases turnout dramatically! At the same time, we’re reminding voters to vote for the Democratic ticket up and down the ballot, including the important governor’s race.”

Sample Call Script:
Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m a California voter from [CITY, zip code] and I’m a member of Indivisible Yolo.
For both Senators and Representatives:
I’m calling to ask [Rep. Garamendi/Rep. Matsui/Sen. Feinstein/Sen. Padilla] to include Build Back Better priorities in the reconciliation bill. Please fight for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, for climate action, for investments in the care economy, for paid leave, and for housing; and pay for it by taxing the ultra-rich and big corporations so they finally pay their fair share.
To add for Representative Garamendi or Matsui:
I’m also asking [Rep. Garamendi/Rep. Matsui] to hold the line and vote NO on the bipartisan infrastructure framework until and unless a bold and inclusive reconciliation bill is passed first. Thank you.
tative to Hold the Line and vote no on the bipartisan infrastructure framework until and unless a reconciliation bill with Build Back Better priorities is passed first. Then we’re calling our Senators to make sure they’re also fighting to include the pillars of Build Back Better in reconciliation.
