The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, created in 2012, provides temporary protection to undocumented immigrants who were brought tothe United States as children.
Today Judge Andrew Hanen, a federal judge in Texas, ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA, was “illegally implemented” and blocked new applicants to the program. In reaction to this ruling, Florida Democratic Party Chairman Manny Diaz issued the following statement: “This rash and ill-considered ruling will upend the lives of too many law abiding immigrants who came to this country at a young age and are here without legal status through no fault of their own. Americans know an injustice when they see one, they understand that excluding these ‘Dreamers’ is not the right thing to do, and there is overwhelming support for allowing them to legally remain among us.” “I call on Congress to act swiftly to provide a permanent solution, a path to citizenship that will grant these ‘Dreamers’ the legal status they deserve and make official what so many of them know in their hearts: they belong here, this is their home too.”
ICYMI: FDP Chair Manny Diaz Discusses Situation in Cuba on Spanish Radio
Miami, FL — Today, amidst ongoing protests against authoritarianism and oppression in Cuba, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz joined various Spanish radio stations across the state to highlight the need for support of the Cuban people and how Democrats are standing with the Cuban people in their fight for freedom.
Chair Diaz made it clear that politicizing the protests in Cuba, as many Republicans have already begun to do, is the absolute wrong course of action. We need all of our leaders to work together with our administration to help and support the people of Cuba, not use their pain and struggle to score political points.

Florida Families Start Receiving Monthly Tax Cut Today, Thanks to President Biden and Democrats
Every Single Republican in Congress Voted Against These Tax Cuts, Which Are Set to Cut Child Poverty in Half
FLORIDA – Today, Thursday, July 15 is the first day Floridians will start receiving a monthly tax cut of up to $300 per child as part of the American Rescue Plan. Thanks to President Biden and Democrats, and no thanks to Republicans in Congress who unanimously opposed this relief plan, this tax cut will provide additional relief of up to $1,600 per child to the families of 3.8 million children in Florida, helping lift 272,000 children in the state out of poverty. Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz released the following statement highlighting the program:
“These payments are great news for Florida families. It will help them cover expenses like child care, back to school materials, groceries and more. It will also help support folks returning to work who lost their income or employment during the pandemic, especially mothers. Nationwide it will lift millions of children out of poverty. Simply said, the expanded Child Tax Credit is one of the largest-ever single-year tax cuts for families with children, and it is all happening thanks to President Biden and the Democrats. Not a single Republican voted for it in Congress. This includes Sen. Marco Rubio, who puts partisanship above the well-being of Floridians.”
“These middle class tax cuts represent a historic investment in our kids, our families and our economic future. President Biden and the Democrats are delivering, and will continue to deliver, for Florida’s working families.”
