Reaching Out with the Good News
We have hit the streets with our first major outreach effort! We are placing doorhangers in targeted locations throughout the county to spread the word about the American Rescue Plan and Biden’s proposed Jobs/Infrastructure and Families plans. We ask residents to check their voter registration to keep good government like this coming. Take a look at this piece. Distribution of 10,000 pieces will include areas of Flagstaff, Williams, Page, and mobile home parks in rural areas north of Flagstaff and will be completed by the end of June. Thank you to Allan Gerston and Nancy Branham for leading this project!
The intent was not to have conversations, but there have been some. One household in Flagstaff was unaware of the stimulus checks and didn’t believe they had gotten any money. Our PC was able to direct them to help to make sure they would get the dollars to which they are entitled.
May also was the beginning of one of our targeted mail campaigns. This one seeks out Democrats who voted in 2020 but not in 2018 to begin the persuasion effort for 2022.
Hands Off Our Votes Rally a Success!
On May 8, we sponsored a rally in support of the federal For the People and John Lewis Voting Rights Acts. Rep. Tom O’Halleran stopped by. See photos here.
Our Chair proposed a resolution in support of these laws which was adopted by the Arizona Democratic Party at its State Committee Meeting last Saturday.

Whether you’re laughing or angry about the sham audit that continues this week in Maricopa County, it’s important for all of us to understand the threat it poses. Earlier this month, County Recorder Patty Hansen appeared on one of our Latinx Committee’s Conversations with the Community. If you’re interested, the bilingual recording is available here.

It’s Petition Season!
We already have a few candidates’ petitions available in our office. If you are a PC or volunteer who would like to obtain signatures for our Democratic candidates, please make arrangements to pick up a petition and clipboard. Right now, we have petitions for Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman and County Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Mango-Paget.
Remember: Before the primary, the party does not endorse candidates. Nonetheless, we will work to assist any Democrat in getting on the ballot.
Watch this space: There may be important referenda petitions concerning the voter suppression bills that have come through the legislature. These will be on a fast track as signatures need to be gathered within 90 days of the day the legislature adjourned.
July 4th is July 3d This Year
At least as far as the Flagstaff 4th of July Parade is concerned.
The parade will be Saturday, July 3. We have a committee at work to make our presence known. If you are interested in working on the float, write: Info@CoconinoDemocrats.org and let us know. If you are a candidate or elected official who would like to walk with us, also let us know. Our theme for the parade is Dems Deliver.
ADP Resolutions
At the Arizona Democratic Party’s State Committee Meeting last Saturday, three resolutions were adopted.
Resolution in Support of the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, requesting that our Senators do whatever it takes to pass these laws, including ending the filibuster if necessary to pass these by Labor Day. (passed 576 to 0)
Resolution in Support of the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, requesting that our Senators do whatever it takes to pass these laws, including ending the filibuster if necessary to pass these by Labor Day. (passed 543 to 2)
Resolution to End the Filibuster to support President Biden’s agenda (passed 501 to 50)
Conversation with Coconino County Democratic Party Chair Ann Heitland about current events and party efforts. Audience questions are encouraged.
This is a fundraising event with a suggested donation of $25; however, all Coconino County Democrats are welcome to attend whether or not they are able to donate.
