Friends and fellow Democrats,
I am writing on behalf of the Washtenaw County Democratic Party Executive Board. We were surprised and saddened to hear of Congresswoman Debbie Dingell’s hospitalization due to a perforated ulcer. It’s a reminder to all of us that even those, like Ms. Dingell, who work tirelessly day after day and who always seem to be the strongest person in the room are still human with all of the vulnerabilities we share as humans. Debbie Dingell is without question the hardest working elected official I have ever met. She keeps a schedule that is almost unimaginably full, meeting with constituents, colleagues, and other groups from early morning until late in the evening. Her current health issue is related to surgery she had earlier this year and her insistence that she not take opioid-based pain killers. She relied on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin and ibuprofen, which can cause severe stomach irritation/inflammation and, in her case, an ulcer. In her typical fashion, she is using the moment to remind us all of the potential side effects of heavy use of NSAIDs. We wish Ms. Dingell a speedy recovery and pray she will be back on her feet soon and back in the fight to make the lives of her constituents better. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and conversations over the next few weeks.
In solidarity, Chris SavageWCDP Chair
