CA Indivisible to Rally at Sen. Feinstein’s Offices for Electoral Reforms

For the People Act

Over 20 California Indivisible groups representing tens of thousands of members are banding together to organize simultaneous rallies at Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s state offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego on Monday, April 5, 2021, 12:00-1:00 pm to urge her to fight for passage of S.1, the For the People Act, in the U.S. Senate.

Sen. Feinstein’s state director, Jim Lazarus, will meet with the attendees at the San Francisco rally.

The For the People Act addresses long-festering problems in the electoral process by making it easier to register and vote, removing dark money from political campaigns, and strengthening ethics rules for civil servants. It calls for independent redistricting commissions across the country, similar to California’s, to curtail partisan gerrymandering by state legislatures. It puts limits on the purging of voter rolls, a practice that has been abused in order to suppress the votes of mostly Black and minority voters.

And in response to former President Trump’s complete refusal to release his tax returns, the bill compels financial transparency in all future presidential candidates by requiring them to release theirs.

The bill, if passed into law, would counter the over 350 state bills that Republicans are pushing in such states as Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, and Texas to constrain people’s ability to vote.

H.R.1, the House equivalent of S.1, already passed the U.S. House of Representatives on March 3, 2021. However, S.1 faces fierce opposition by Republicans in the Senate, who will almost certainly filibuster the bill in order to kill it. Sen. Feinstein has already expressed support of the For the People Act. The Indivisible rallies on April 5 will call on her to fight to secure our democracy through the voting and electoral reforms in the For the People Act – and not allow the Republicans to block passage of the act into law.
