FDP Chair Condemns AG Moody’s Decision to Join Election Lawsuit Amicus Brief

Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement following AG Ashley Moody’s announcement that she signed onto the amicus brief supporting a Texas lawsuit attempting to overturn the election results:

“Instead of spending their time addressing the coronavirus here in Florida or fixing our broken unemployment system, Governor DeSantis and AG Ashley Moody are wasting their time signing amicus briefs suggesting that already certified election results should be overturned. This is a waste of taxpayer dollars and clearly a performative action just to please Donald Trump. It is disgraceful.”

Florida Democratic Party Statement on International Human Rights Day

In honor of International Human Rights Day, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo release the following statement:

“Today as we celebrate all of the strides we have made across the world to expand access to basic human rights, we also must take stock of where we are falling short, especially right here at home. Governor DeSantis has let a range of human rights issues persist here in Florida.

“Under Governor DeSantis’ watch, human rights violations have grown in Florida. From not addressing children in cages at immigration detention centers, to ignoring the rapid COVID outbreak leading to massive death tolls in prisons and detention centers, to refusing to fix the broken unemployment system causing millions to live with food insecurity and thousands to lose their homes, and introducing legislation that would infringe on Floridian’s human rights if passed, Governor DeSantis has proven himself willing to put his political interests in advance of our human rights. Florida can do much better than Ron DeSantis.”

Florida Democratic Party Statement on Hanukkah

As Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, begins this evening, the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:

“Tonight, the first night of Hanukkah begins and the Florida Democratic Party wants to wish all those who celebrate a joyous Hanukkah. While celebrations will look a bit different this year, as many will gather remotely, we hope you are able to enjoy time with loved ones. May the next eight nights be filled with joy for you and your family, and may the candles light the way to a brighter future for all of us. Chag Sameach!”

Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.

Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.

That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.

From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
