Washtenaw County Election Results
The County Clerk’s Office has posted their report on the results of the November 3, 2020 General Election. You can check out a detailed breakdown here. While these results reflect the hard work and resolve of our volunteers, we can’t go back to sleep. Continuing to strengthen our local communities, holding our elected officials accountable, and fostering a new generation of political activists are things Washtenaw Dems need to work on every day of every year.
November General Membership Meeting
November 7, 9:30 a.m.
The November General Membership Meeting will include a brief presentation from Larry Kestenbaum, the Washtenaw County Clerk. This will be followed by a motion to consider proposed bylaw changes.
Only people who register and have their MDP membership confirmed will be able to participate in this General Membership meeting. Participants will need to have been a member of the Michigan Democratic Party no later than October 8. Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials, Democratic nominees to partisan offices, and individuals whose membership lapsed inside the 30-day window are exempt from the advance membership requirement. However, those individuals must be members in order to vote and may join or renew the same day as the meeting.
The proposed bylaw changes were worked on over the past year in a number of stages to make sure they comply with Michigan Democratic Party rules, have no internal conflicts, and don’t create any unintended consequences. If passed, these bylaws would go into effect after the new Executive Committee is elected. (This is the group of people who choose the new Executive Board.) The current bylaws are available on our website. The proposed bylaws can be downloaded here. A video explaining key changes can be viewed here. These changes focus on two major things:
- Cleaning up the wording and formatting of the bylaws to make them more readable and accessible to general membership
- Restructuring the Executive Board to simplify administrative tasks and better emphasize the WCDP’s bottom-up approach to decision making
