Indivisible East Bay: Call to Action

Amy Coney Barrett has criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act. She signed an anti-choice ad that called for overturning Roe v. Wade. The list goes on – but we don’t need to, do we?

The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Thursday October 22 – THIS Thursday – on Barrett’s nomination. If they approve it, it goes to the full Senate. We need to act. It’s crunch time, but it’s not too late.

What you can do:

Call Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, RIGHT NOW.  They both sit on the Judiciary Committee. They and other Democratic Committee members can block a quorum of the Committee by not attending the vote. No quorum on Thursday means no vote – no vote on Thursday means the nomination doesn’t rush to the Senate floor. All calls until then will matter, but you need to call before Thursday.

Here are two scripts focusing on different things: choose the one you prefer and CALL NOW.

1. Focus on the nominee and the process:

My name is ___,  I live in [city, zip], and I’m a member of Indivisible East Bay. I’m calling to oppose Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination. She’s on record against the Affordable Care Act and women’s reproductive rights. But that’s not the worst part. The American people are voting now. This rush disrespects us and democracy. Please do everything you can to stop Barrett’s confirmation.

2. Focus on the process and abuse of power:

My name is ___ and I live in [city, zip], and I’m a member of Indivisible East Bay. I’m calling to oppose filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court until after the election. This rush to appoint Amy Coney Barrett is an abuse of power and a threat to our democracy. The American people are voting now and we must have a say. Please do everything you can to stop this illegitimate nomination, including denying Republicans a quorum in committee.
