Rep. Amy Mercado Statement on Ivanka Trump Visit to Orlando Today

In response to Ivanka Trump’s visit to Orlando today to campaign for her father, State Rep. Amy Mercado, candidate for Orange County Property Appraiser, released the following statement:

“Central Florida does not need Ivanka Trump to visit Orlando to sell us more empty promises on behalf of her father — we’ve already experienced the devastation of his weak leadership first-hand. Our economy has been dealt a crushing blow by the coronavirus pandemic and because Donald Trump failed to control this outbreak at the onset and continues to ignore the experts, we’re still hemorrhaging jobs more than seven months after Trump said he had everything under control.
“What we need in Orange County from Washington is real leadership for our families that is focused on fighting to expand access to health care, ensure our children can return to school safely, and above all else, get this pandemic under control. Joe Biden is the only candidate who has the experience, skill, and drive to deliver for our families.”

Commissioner Nikki Fried Responds to Trump’s Refusal to Condemn White Supremacy; Calls on Fellow Florida Cabinet Members to do the Same

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried released the following statement in response to President Trump’s refusal to denounce white supremacy, calls on other Cabinet members to join her in condemning Trump’s statement:

“Last night’s debate represents one of the lowest moments in history for an American president. As the nation watched, Donald Trump’s complete failure to condemn white supremacy renders him further unfit for office. Trump’s use of coded language in asking white supremacist terrorists to “stand by” opens a dangerous new chapter in his desperation to retain power by any means. There is only one acceptable answer: white supremacy is a cancer on America, is a domestic terrorism threat to law and order, and must be denounced by every leader across our land.
“That includes Florida’s Republican Governor, Attorney General, and Chief Financial Officer, as my fellow Cabinet members. They must be asked to account for where the leader of their party and the leader of our nation stands on white supremacy and it’s corrosive effects on our democracy.”

Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.

Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.

That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.

From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
