This was a sad weekend. We are grieving the loss of an icon who understood that power must be used to protect the oppressed. We’re enraged by those who would destroy her legacy. And the future of our democracy is all the more uncertain.
Yet during this weekend that brought us to our knees, we saw something incredible happening: You began to rise. You brushed yourselves off and stood back up. We saw our biggest-ever surge in new Giving Circles, with names like Carrying On RBG’s Torch. Choosing Our Ground: In Memory of RBG. By The People. May Her Memory be a Revolution.
You know what we know: the best and only way to honor Justice Ginsburg is by protecting her legacy with action.
We can do this. We must do this. This November, we must defeat Trump, win the U.S. Senate, and control a majority of state chambers.
We know that all Americans are in jeopardy. Trump has promised to nominate Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe v. Wade. In fifty days the Supreme Court will hear a case to strip healthcare coverage from tens of millions by overturning the ACA.
Winning the presidency and the Senate are vital. But state legislatures can act to restore healthcare access for millions of Americans at a time. The radicals on the Court have wielded state power as a potent weapon. It is time to take back that weapon so that it can be used to improve American lives, not destroy them.
How do we achieve this trifecta of the presidency, U.S. Senate, and state legislatures? We know our work is important but it’s not sufficient on its own, so today we’re shining a light on efforts working alongside ours to save our democracy.
