Please read and take action on this IMMEDIATELY!
To the Community that is Prescott Indivisible:
There are three Democratic candidates for the AZ Corporation Commission–Bill Mundell, Shea Stanfield and Anna Tovar. Each of these candidates is a strong advocate of solar energy and making AZ less reliant on fossil fuels. However, their election is 99 days away and we need to take action now to upgrade the current Commission’s policies!
After months and months (years and years) of advocacy for renewable energy, the Arizona Corporation Commission seems poised to vote on a more robust renewable energy and energy efficiency standards. Many of us have emailed, sent letters and submitted testimony. Unfortunately, the draft rules from the ACC Utilities Staff were disappointing. Because of this weak proposal, Chairman Burns and Commissioner Kennedy are planning on initiating some amendments that are more in line with what is needed for renewable energy and energy efficiency moving forward– increasing the renewable energy standard to 50% by 2030 and include an energy efficiency standard of 35% by 2030.
What we must do between now and the meeting this Thursday, July 30, is send emails to ALL the Commissioners urging them to support more robust REST(renewable energy standards) and EE (energy efficiency) standards.
Here is some language that you might use in your emails:
(To Commissioners Dunn, Marquez Peterson & Olson: ) “The Staff Energy Rules proposal is not robust enough. Climate change is a very real threat to our planet, the health of the most vulnerable, and the future of our children and grandchildren. We cannot proceed with business as usual in this time when scientists tell us that we have ten years to avoid the most drastic impacts of a warming planet. Now is the time to take advantage of solar energy and stop our unhealthy dependence on fossil fuels. Please increase the renewable energy standard to 50% by 2030 and include an energy efficiency standard of 35% by 2030.”
(To Chairman Burns & Commissioner Kennedy:) “Thank you for your visionary leadership on renewable energy and energy efficiency. We are grateful that you continue to realize the threat of our dependence on fossil fuels. Your proposal makes good economic sense, good environmental sense and good moral sense. People who are conscious of the threats ahead in Arizona acknowledge your vision. On Thursday, we will be behind you as you continue to work for a better future for our precious planet, the health of the most vulnerable, and the future of our children and grandchildren.”
