Ventura College and the Diversity in Culture Festival announces the 5th Annual Poetry Slam Contest. Finalists will perform at the Diversity in Culture main stage on Thursday, March 26, 2020 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Prizes include: First Place $250, Second Place $150 and Third Place $100, Sponsored by ASVC.

Subject Line POETRY SLAM

THEME: Ventura College selected Luis Alberto Urrea’s 2009 work Into the Beautiful North as its One Book, One Campus selection for this academic year. The book deals with many topics, including family, migration, journeys and transformation. Please interpret the concept of transition or transformation however you would like in your work.

Student Art Contest-$200 PRIZE! Submit Artwork for Next Year’s Diversity in Culture Festival Poster!

Submit artwork by March, 19, 2019. Artwork must reflect the theme, “One World, One People, One Campus.” Artwork can be any medium however submission must be in a digital format of 24×36″ at 300ppi. File size must be 10mb maximum.

Email submission to vcartgallery@vcccd.edu. Please include a cell phone number for contact. Winner will be announced at this year’s Diversity in Culture Festival which will be held on March 25 & 26, 2020

“Ventura College is beginning preparations for the 2020 Diversity in Culture Festival. We are looking for speakers, storytellers, performers and events to include in the festival.

The goals of the Diversity in Culture Festival are to provide educational opportunities for greater awareness and understanding of diversity (both globally and locally), to foster connections and alliances with community services, to promote diversity events, presentations, displays and to engage faculty, staff and students to support and promote inclusion and representation of diverse populations.”
